Lo primero es lo primero: mi nombre es Angela Lamb, tengo 28 años y amo a Jesús. También soy fanática de mi nuevo esposo, John (maravilloso), nuestra gran comunidad de peces y cíclidos de agua dulce, y nuestra nueva perrita Greta. Dirijo Paper Moutain Co desde nuestro estudio en casa.
Después de mudarme a San Diego en julio de 2012, estaba luchando con mi trayectoria profesional. Yo era diseñador gráfico, pero sin coche y pocos contactos y la ciudad arrolladora, no sabía qué hacer. En medio de la noche golpeó: ¿por qué hacer arte para otras personas, cuando podía hacer mi propio arte y hacer sonreír a los demás?
Al principio, no estaba planeando usar ninguna escritura en mis carteles tipográficos. Me encanta la simplicidad de las palabras en papel, bien enmarcadas. Un domingo escuché un mensaje acerca de cómo Dios nos da nuestros talentos, entonces, ¿cómo los estamos usando para el ministerio?
Me golpeó. Tenía los recursos para hacer esto, así que ¿por qué no combinar mi nuevo esfuerzo artístico y hacer algo por el Reino? Las Escrituras serían el foco de mi trabajo. Comencé a leer e investigar, compilar versículos y elegir un stock de papel. Compré una impresora de gran formato y seleccioné los mejores sobres de correo. Pedí etiquetas de envío y pegatinas de "No doblar", bolsas de celofán y tinta.
Fue un comienzo lento, pero llevo unos meses y me encanta lo que estoy haciendo. Me encantan las historias, escuchar cómo un versículo ha animado a alguien, o ha servido como el regalo perfecto. Doy gracias a Dios por cada venta, por la capacidad de hacer algo que amo y servirle.
First things first: my name is Angela Lamb, I am 28 years old, and I love Jesus. I'm also a fan of my new husband, John (wonderful), our large community of freshwater fish and cichlids, and our new puppy Greta. I run Paper Moutain Co out of our home studio.
After moving to San Diego in July 2012, I was struggling with my career path. I was a graphic designer, but without a car and few contacts and the overwhelming city, I did not know what to do. In the middle of the night it hit: why make art for other people, when I could make my own art and make others smile?
At first, I wasn't planning on using any scripture in my typographic posters. I love the simplicity of words on paper, nicely framed. One Sunday I heard a message about how God gives us our talents, so how are we using them for ministry?
It hit me. I had the resources to do this, so why not combine my new artistic endeavor and do something for the Kingdom? Scripture would be the focus for my work. I began reading and researching, compiling verses and choosing a paper stock. I bought a large-format printer and selected the best mailing envelopes. I ordered shipping labels and "Do Not Bend" stickers, cellophane bags and ink.
It was a slow start, but I am a few months in and love what I am doing. I love the stories, hearing how a verse has encouraged someone, or served as the perfect gift. I thank God for each sale, for the ability to both do something that I love and serve Him.
