About

Bringing Production Back to America, Together!

Thank you for your interest in Not Made in China Pottery Studio.

We're a Local Co-Op Gallery and Studio Space. The Owners' first opened up shop right in their home. They both lost their jobs at the university in 2008, in the middle of The Great Recession. They would complete private commissions right out of their livingroom. About a year or so later, the studio became it's own room and the owners would teach privately individuals. The studio grew a little more and then Not Made in China would rent out studio time to individual, and officiall being open to the public with a small walk-in gallery...their then living room. At the end of 2009, Not Made in China Open its doors to "Weekend Warriors". Persons whom don't necessarily want a full studio membership, but want a fun, one time lesson, like dates and bucket-lister.
A pottery studio, school, gallery, bookstore, and one of the finest clay facilities in New Mexico; We occupy a spacious, well lit, and professionally equipped space in the University/Nob Hill Area, a vibrant and diverse community of artists. We offer resident and non-resident studio memberships, classes, and workshops. Come and be in the forefront of the Neo-Renaissance Art Movement of ABQ!

Not Made in China brings high quality, locally handmade items to the general public. Today's ever internationalizing economy rarely gives a competitive choice for our lives' most functional aesthetics. Eliminating the Artists' Role, the industrial revolution resulted in poorly manufactured products. Not Made in China's re-creating a world where aesthetics flourish in all aspects, not just as simple decorators, but as vital, functional participants of society. The final goal of all artistic activity is infrastructure.

“Not Made in China questions One's Buying ethics.” GiGi, a community Studio Member. “What have you done for your local economy? Buying Local during the biggest shopping season, the Holidays, is the best way to support your local economy. It's sad to think, How many children died this season to make these crappy gifts. Or Hoping the Over-seas Slave who made my pants is able to afford food, let alone a Christmas... Not Made in China's unique compared to other gallery gift shops, because you buy directly out of the artists' studio. This is Great as an artisan. I sell my works at a third of the price of what I would have to sell for in Old Town or Santa Fe.”

Not Made in China Pottery Studio is an open to the public ceramics and pottery studio. Members enjoy access to 6 electric pottery wheels (Spins in both directions), two kick wheels, hand-building and wheel tools, slab roller, extruder, electric kilns, a full Art Library, High-Speed Wifi, break-room access, Gallery to sell in, and an experienced staff of technicians and student instructors.
