Always a Dispatcher
Empecé en comunicaciones de emergencia en 2010, en un pueblo con un solo semáforo donde la radio sonaba constantemente y la cafetera nunca se apagaba. Respondía al 911, ejecutaba órdenes de arresto, despachaba a cada unidad yo mismo... todo el caos. Era la voz en el peor momento de alguien, la calma en medio del caos literal y metafórico, y el salvavidas de mis oficiales. Desde el primer día, lo supe: este trabajo estaba hecho para mí.
En aquel entonces, no había mucho para nosotros: ni merchandising de despachadores, ni bolsas divertidas con auriculares, ni camisetas que realmente lo entendieran. Recuerdo que deseaba que alguien hiciera algo para nosotros... y ahora, lo hago.
Con los años, me mudé de estado en estado, adquiriendo experiencia con diversos centros del 911. Recientemente, trabajé en Denver 911 antes de mudarme de estado en 2022 para estar más cerca de mi familia.
Hoy en día, trabajo como investigador de antecedentes, pero en el fondo siempre seré un 911. ¿La delgada línea dorada? Nunca se suelta.
Not the GateKeeper es mi forma de mantenerme conectado con el mundo del centro de comunicaciones mientras creo productos que hacen que otros despachadores se sientan vistos, apoyados y quizás rían entre lágrimas. I got my start in emergency communications in 2010 — in a one-stoplight town where the radio squawked constantly and the coffee pot never turned off. I answered 911s, ran warrants, dispatched every unit myself… the whole chaotic buffet. I was the voice in someone’s worst moment, the calm in the literal and metaphorical chaos, and the lifeline for my officers. From day one, I knew: this job was made for me.
Back then, there wasn’t much out there for us — no dispatcher merch, no funny headset bags, no tees that really "got it." I remember wishing someone would make something for us… so now, I do.
Over the years, I moved from state to state, gaining experience with a variety of 911 centers. Most recently, I was with Denver 911 before moving out of state in 2022 to be closer to my family.
These days, I work as a background investigator by title — but I’ll always be 911 at heart. The thin gold line? It never really lets go.
Not the GateKeeper is my way of staying connected to the comm center world while creating products that make other dispatchers feel seen, supported, and maybe laugh through the tears. If you've ever cried in the CAD notes or muttered “I’m transferring this to Fire,” welcome home.
