Well, I originally wanted to become a Makeup Artist. I feel that Makeup is an art and it's something that I feel comes naturally to me. When I'm doing makeup, I feel like I'm in my element. It's funny how things can change in a moments time. I had gone to a makeup school in Los Angeles, CA for one month. When I got back, my husband was building a much needed gate in the yard to keep our dog, "a silky terrier named Toto", from running out into the driveway. He suggested that I should make a sign that says "Toto's Place" to put near the gate. I thought it was a cute idea and took him up on the notion and low and behold, I discovered my love for making signs! I immediately started dreaming of building my own sign making business. There are generations of artists and woodworkers in my family. Who knew I would keep up the family tradition? I learned that the process of making signs fuels my soul. It involves everything I love...designing, artistry and creativity all wrapped into one. This craft is truly rewarding when I have an idea that was once only in my mind and it transitions into a creation that comes to life! I love getting inspiration by some of the simplest things, which can set me off to make something that I otherwise might not have made. My grandma comes over to visit me and she loves giving me paper towels for inspiration. Every time she comes over she has a new roll, each with a different design. She's so cute! I now have a drawer full of inspirational paper towels! It's very endearing to me.
Since that day in the yard, I have become proficient in my craft. But I am always learning new techniques because I am interested in being an artisan like my father and grandfathers before him. Knowledge is acquired through experience and I love never running out of things to learn. In 2015, I moved from California to North Dakota and I no longer had the room I required to be able to make signs, but I have hope that I will again one day! Currently in my Etsy shop, you will find handmade jewelry and will later find wine bottle lamps, which will be coming soon!
In the future I will be adding more wonderful items to my shop. It may take awhile, but some of the items I would like to add are...aromatic soy candles, clocks, seasonal silk flower centerpieces, floral hair clips and headbands, greeting cards, picture frames, tissue holders and tile coasters.
Thank you for taking the time to show interest in my shop and I hope you find something here that you will love!!! ♥
