Frequently asked questions

Can I play with the nut boats?

Nut boats are pretty sturdy, but are made for display purposes (not toys for children!). Feel free to reenact your favorite naval battles, but hold them by the hulls rather than the sails, masts, or rigging and play on dry land (No water!). Minor battle damage can be repaired with a dab of glue and a clip.

Do not try to eat the boats. They are pointy. As with all small objects, they may post a choking hazard to small children.

Can you actually sail the boats?

Nut boats are not shipped ready to go in water. Walnut shells are naturally waterproof, but the glue/deck/masts/sails are not. The smaller boats float just fine, but the larger boats have a tendency to capsize.

If you're really determined to sail your tiny boats, we recommend this:

1) Plug any cracks, seams, or holes in the hull and decking with clear waterproof glue.
2) Spray the entire boat, sails included, with a waterproof coating.
3) Check the balance of the boat to see if it floats correctly. If not, drill a tiny hole in the deck and pour a small amount of sand in the boat. Test and repeat until it floats right, then fill in the hole and waterproof it.

We do not offer refunds for attempting to sail or waterproof nutboats.

Can you pose the boats?

Yes! Nut boats are always tested to make sure they stand upright before they ship, but since the hulls are made of natural shells they can be finicky to pose. We sell blue o-rings for use as a stand. but you can use anything washer-shaped. Alternately, you can glue them to a stand or surface for a more permanent installation.

Custom and personalized orders

We are happy to do custom and personalized orders! We can make a new kind of boat, do a custom paintjob, custom sail colors, or just collect the set of boats you want. Since all custom orders are made from scratch, they take longer to create, process, and ship, so please be patient.

Do you do returns or exchanges?

We do not, but we do refunds if the boats arrive damaged, or there was a problem with the order. Contact us! We want to make sure you enjoy your boats.
