Ophine..... natural beauty
OPHINE garners its' name from my once, very stylish grandmother from whom I inherited a truly unique flair for fashion. OPHINE jewelry is purposefully designed to heighten inner beauty by adorning the body with complementary accessories. It is my hope that anyone wearing OPHINE is reminded of their own beauty and unique style, and inspired to share it with the world.
However, as my spirtual journey aligns with my creative spirit, I've found myself drawn to the magically beautiful power of crystals. Whether you are drawn to a crystal in my collection because of it's purported mystical qualities, or simply because of it's allure and unique appeal - the simple power in the natural beauty of these crystals is undeniable.
However, a creative spirit I also really enjoy experimenting with non-traditional, ancient jewelry materials such as clay. I love the wide range of color and textures that emerge from that process of exploration. Many OPHINE clay-based designs are created using a unique blend of inventiveness and technique. Each design is carefully hand-sculpted with a composite of clay, and occasionally metal, wire, and natural stones. This typically one-of-a-kind design is then heavily coated with a thick layer of copper that takes a minimum of 10 hours to form. Using this technique I am able to create dainty or dramatic statement pieces that are as precious as they are wearable. As a final beautifying touch, the designs are plated in 24k gold.
I truly value the opportunity to share my creations with you. My long term goal for OPHINE is not only that it be a fashion statement, but a philanthropic statement as well - helping to fund charitable causes, and sustain positive social change.
Thank you for shopping, supporting OPHINE, and handmade crafts in general - it is a wonderful opportunity to look and feel beautiful!

Additional policies and FAQs
Some designs in my shop are created using a process called electroforming. This technique involves a tedious process of hand-sculpting a design that may include gemstones or other organic or inorganic elements into a ring, earrings, or pendant. Once the desired form is fashioned, it is then slowly plated with metal to create the finished, sturdy metal jewelry piece!
Caring For Your Gems!:
All metals, with the exception of pure gold, are subject to oxidation - which in simple terms is a harmless chemical reaction that takes place when metal is exposed to oxygen, giving it a beautiful tarnish or patina. Think new penny (pre-oxidation) - vs. the penny that's been hanging out in the bottom of your purse for a few months (post-oxidation). Keeping your jewelry in air-tight containers helps to slow this process. Also, avoiding exposing your jewelry to heavy lotions, perfumes, oils, and water will help to stall oxidization. Try to handle jewelry pieces such as earrings or necklaces that feature patina treatments or metal pendants, by the chain only, or ear hooks only, to avoid depositing potential oxidizers from your hands - such as natural oils - onto the metal or patina surface. Abstain from wearing your jewelry while performing rugged activities, or activities that involve prolonged exposure to water such as hand washing, showering, or swimming.
To patina metal is to beautifully manipulate the natural oxidization process to create various color treatments. Some pieces in my shop are treated with blue/green patinas, and sealed with a light lacquer. Some of the electroformed pieces are treated with Liver of Sulfur, and sealed with wax. However, the seal does not make them entirely water-proof or invincible to exposure to harsh chemicals. PLEASE READ THE CARE TIPS UNDER OXIDATION
Like the pieces in my shop, everyone's body chemistry is unique. For some people, this means they may have a harmless chemical reaction to copper that causes greening. This coloring of the skin is not permanent or toxic, and will not effect the integrity of the jewelry piece.
