Writings on the Wall
Mi herencia ugandesa y estadounidense, así como mis estudios en arte, arquitectura y diseño, me han llevado a los confines del mundo. Hace varios años viajé a Dakar, donde me aventuré por primera vez en el mercado textil. En ese momento, hacía tiempo que me había desviado de mi búsqueda de convertirme en arquitecto, pero mi amor por el diseño del hogar nunca me abandonó.
En última instancia, xN Studio se inspiró en este viaje a Senegal, pero la casa de mi infancia y mi propia casa siempre han estado decoradas en un estilo ecléctico y africano. Estos eran los elementos que eran familiares para mi origen y, naturalmente, parte de mi entorno, principalmente a través del trabajo de mi madre. Básicamente estoy construyendo sobre lo que siempre me ha rodeado. Los escritos ya estaban en la pared.
xN Studio es mucho más que estética. Se trata de un legado y una belleza que a menudo se deja fuera de los recuentos de África. Se trata de normalizar lo "étnico" (aborrezco la palabra) y celebrar su influencia en la cultura mundial.
My Ugandan and an American heritage as well as my studies in art, architecture, and design have landed me in the far reaches of the world. Several years ago I traveled to Dakar, where I first ventured into the textile market. By that time I had long-since detoured from my pursuit of becoming an architect, but my love of home design never left me.
Ultimately, xN Studio was inspired by this trip to Senegal, but my childhood home and my own home have always been decorated in an eclectic and African style. These were the items that were familiar to my background and naturally part of my surroundings, mostly through my mother’s work. I’m basically just building on what has always surrounded me. The writings were already on the wall.
xN Studio is about much more than aesthetics. It is about a legacy and beauty that is often left out of recounts of Africa. It is about normalizing the "ethnic" (I abhor the word) and celebrating its influence on worldwide culture.
