Finally took the plunge!

Way back in kindergarten, I made a bird using different kinds of paper and my teacher told my mother that one day, I would become an artist. From Play-doh to polymer clay, finger paints to oils, I have been happily creating ever since.

I love working with polymer clay because of its versatility. The low oven temperatures used to bake the clay, allows me to incorporate many strange and wonderful items such as sequins, feather, acorn tops, jewelry findings, fabric, etc. Plus polymer clay can be painted with inks, pastels oil, acrylics, even eye shadow! This diversity is an inspiration in itself! No longer is an acorn top just an acorn top, but it is a hat, a cup or even a dinner plate! A sequin is not just something to put on a dress or a hat but now its a dragons scale or a mermaids tail! Many times, inspiration comes from seeing an object and all of a sudden a list goes through my mind of what I could create with it!. A recent example of this was while searching for a silver toned egg stand, I found a gold sleigh egg stand, which of course became the inspiration for a Santa mouse being pulled in a sleigh by a reindeer mouse!

For many years, family and friends would see the creations I made and always suggested that I should sell them. A few years ago, my husband passed away unexpectedly and my life took another turn. I devoted more time to my sculpting to help with the healing process. While I have worked most of my life, owning my own shop was a little daunting to me. Etsy was highly recommended to me by a friend as a place where I could show my work. It was very interesting to browse in all of the different shops and see the beautiful handmade items other artisans make. Opening my own shop was easier then I expected and I am still learning the "ins and outs" but I am enjoying the journey.

I love creating! I have used many wonderful mediums but sculpting with polymer clay is what I enjoy the most. There's so much you can incorporate into your sculpture, so many options it would be hard to list them all!
