Announcement    Thank you for visiting my shop! I specialize in ocean pottery and nature inspired ceramic art in the form of cremation urns, artistic bowls, planters and mugs. Each of my pieces is a one-of-a-kind artistic creation reflecting the beauty of nature.

Every piece of my pottery is created to be a unique work of art. I alway hand brush the glaze, unlike some potters who use the dipping method, which is much faster. I like to think of each of my ceramic creations as the blank canvas for a new painting which can never be reproduced!

All of my pottery is hand thrown on my potter's wheel, glazed by hand and fired at least twice in my kiln. The beauty of my handmade pottery is that no two pieces are exactly the same. There is no assembly line production going on in this pottery studio! Each piece is a unique, original piece of art, created with imagination, patience and love!

I have recently branched into creating urns, both custom and ready to ship. Over the past few years I have discovered that many people love my nature-inspired glaze combinations and would like an urn for their loved one that reflects the beauty of the ocean, or a sunset, or the mountains. Customers seem to love the simple, natural cork lids and the variety of shapes for my urns.

I am no stranger to grief and loss! I have suffered through and survived the pain of losing our 12 year old son, both of my in-laws, my mother and father, several other friends and family members, and many beloved pets throughout my lifetime. So I feel an incredible amount of compassion and often have an immediate personal connection with many of my urn customers! I am honored to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind urns to be a resting place for a loved one!

My hope is that when you bring a piece of my pottery into your home, or give it away as a present, you or the gift recipient will somehow experience the peace and joy that I feel every time I stare in wonder at a breathtaking sunset, crashing ocean waves, majestic mountains, or the intricate details of a delicate flower.

Many of my glaze combinations involve at least five different colors, three coats of each, brushed on one coat at a time. The layering and dripping effects are sometimes unpredictable, but always beautiful! The prices of my pottery reflect the time and detailed work put into each piece, and the fact that each one is a unique, one of a kind piece of ceramic art!.

Since I have lived in California the majority of my life, most of my inspiration comes from places in this beautiful and varied state. I currently have 7-10 different lines, including: La Jolla, Carlsbad Flower Fields, Oceanside, Channel Islands, Moonstone Beach and Big Sur. Please visit my website for more photos of these lines, and a description of the inspiration behind them.

My pottery is glazed in lead free glazes, and is food, dishwasher and microwave safe! However, please read my comments in the FAQ section where I recommend hand washing and limited microwave use.

    Owner

I was first introduced to ceramic arts way back in high school! 40 years later, I was thrilled to re-discover the joy of working with clay on the wheel. I quickly found out that people loved my unique, nature-inspired pottery, especially my glazes!

Frequently asked questions

Care instructions

Although my pottery is durable and made with materials that are dishwasher and microwave safe, they are also works of art that should be treated with care.

* It is recommended to hand wash your pieces and avoid the microwave.

* The dishwasher may, over time, dull the sheen of the glaze and increase the chances of chipping the rim when loading and unloading.

* Avoid leaving it in a sink of water, which will seep into any exposed clay. If a piece - that has trapped water in it - is microwaved, it may crack.

* Occasionally, ceramics can fracture from thermal shock, especially if the piece is cold to the touch.

Glazes and "imperfections"

Please realize that the colors of glazes vary greatly, depending on firing temperature, how many coats of glaze, etc. For example, in the Monterey Bay line, some of the products lean toward green tones and others toward teal.

Also, I use many finicky and unpredictable glazes. Some of these glazes are prone to what is called "crazing" which results in very small cracks under the top surface of the glaze. Many people find it interesting and beautiful and part of the unique art of ceramics. The glaze I use for the Moonlight Beach line often does this. It is not a flaw; it is just part of the process.

Sizing details

Please be sure to look at the exact measurements of the item carefully before you order. I try to use props to help show the size, but sometimes there are variables that are confusing. For example, if I show three pears in a bowl, you may think they are large pears and so it must be a large bowl. However, if they are small pears than the bowl is actually smaller than you may think. I always list the exact measurements of each piece! Please grab a ruler or tape measure and decide ahead of time whether it’s the right size for you.

Color Variances

I prefer taking photos of my pottery in the bright sunshine. It shows the true colors of the glazes better than indoor shots. Please realize that the colors will look different inside your home.

Colors shown are the most accurate representations available. However, due to the limitations of web and monitor color display, we cannot guarantee that the colors will exactly match the final results.

What is the "Pinging" sound I hear that is coming from my piece of pottery?

This sound happens on occasion when the glaze and clay are still "settling." Compare it to the creaking sounds you may hear when a newly built house is "settling." It is nothing to worry about and should go away within a few days!

Shipping

My pottery is shipped via the USPS priority mail within 1-2 days of the receipt of payment. I take care in packing to insure your pottery arrives safely. I use bubble wrap and cardboard to secure the pottery during transit.

Broken Pottery

Here is some VERY IMPORTANT information regarding an order that arrives with your item or items broken:

Photos that clearly show the extent of damage will help with your case.

If you received something damaged, please hang onto the original packaging and the damaged item until your claim is settled. You may be asked to take them to your local Post Office™ for inspection later.

Failure to do so will result in denial of the claim, and an inability for me to refund your money or make you a replacement piece at no charge.

Custom and personalized orders

When you place a custom order, I can send you photos of the entire creation process, if you want. I will definitely send you photos of the finished piece for your approval before I ship it! If you are not satisfied, I will make it again!

Urn Sizing

Cremation urn volumes are measured in cubic inches or cups. The industry standard general formula to determine the size needed is based on body weight. They use an example of: if a person weighed 175 pounds then an urn of at least 175 cubic inches would be needed.

HOWEVER, I have been learning that this general formula is WAY TOO GENERAL, especially with people! With people, the height of the person seems to be more important than the weight.

Many of my customers already have the ashes of their loved one in a temporary box. Finding the measurement of those ashes will be the most accurate way to order an urn. If you have 5 cups of cremains, I will make an urn to hold about 6-7 cups, or 86 - 101 cubic inches.

Custom Urn Pricing and Production Time

You may wonder why my custom urn prices are higher than my other ceramic art pieces . . . . It is an honor for me to create a special, unique urn for a customer who has lost a loved one. I take extra time and care during the creation process. Many customers share photos and personal information of their beloved family member or pet so I can have a more intimate experience while I'm making the custom urn. I also use more clay for the urns so they are heavier and sturdier than my other pieces. The cork lids are an extra cost, including the time it takes to order each one to custom fit each urn.

The time it takes to create a custom urn can vary greatly depending on my schedule. I allow myself 4-6 weeks, but many times it can be much quicker!
