About

Odd Child says, "Celebrate what sets you apart."

HOW I BEGAN TO SEW:
One day I happened to need a sofa slipcovered, and so I bought a used sewing machine. Then I signed-up to adopt from China, and, what was supposed to be a 9-month wait turned into a 5 year wait to adopt. Can you imagine a 5-year pregnancy? Sewing became my wait-therapy. Along the way I wrote lots of letters to my aunt, and she wrote back in her neat cursive, and taught me a whole bunch about sewing so that my projects turned out nicer and nicer. My adoption also happened along the way, and turned out to be the best decision ever! Would you like to adopt? Ask me about it. :+) Having a multicultural family also rocks!
WHY I SEW:
What drives me to sew is my love of the creation process, pure and simple. I like to have a vision, and see it come to fruition. I've given many pieces as presents to friends and their children. I love seeing someone enjoy my work, and have something unique that's just for them, that no one else will ever have.
WHY MY CLOTHES ARE SPECIAL:
My specialty is applique. I love to imagine a little scene or image, and create it on a piece of clothing through cutting and sewing all the elements together. Many of the clothes I create have an applique on them. In addition to that, almost everything I sew is OOAK (one of a kind). Why not be original? Why not wear an affordable original? Why not wear a little piece of art?
I UNDERSTAND THE CURRENT ECONOMICS:
While I view my clothing as special and my art form, I'm open to suggestion and negotiation too. See something you love but it's not priced right? Make me an offer.
WHY "ODD CHILD?"
I've always felt that I'm a little out of step with the world, seeing things in my own way, doing things in my own way, and searching for kindred spirits who also look at the world through different eyes. It doesn't always make life easier, but it usually makes life more interesting. If you're an "odd child" too, maybe you've found the right place here. Welcome!

    Owner, Maker, Designer, Curator

One year I bought a sofa that needed a slipcover, and decided to make one myself. I bought a used sewing machine from eBay, &started to teach myself how to sew. Along the way I discovered that I'd need to adopt if I wanted to have children. I did adopt, from China. I continue to sew because I love sewing & view it as art. I sell what I sew because I hope to afford to adopt again someday. Nice to meet you!

  • Aunt Sara

    Mentor & Teacher

Last year my wonderful Aunt Sara, was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. One of the first things she did after getting that difficult news was to pack up her serger & mail it to me, because she knew I'd long wanted one but couldn't afford one. She passed away in July of 2012, but her serger sews on, & when I'm in my studio working, & I ask her a sewing question, she always answers.

Refunds and Exchanges
RETURN POLICY: With handmade clothes, part of the reason I want to buy them is because they are new, and OOAK. I don't really want to buy something "new" that, in fact has been sent to other people, tried on, laid around in someone's house, returned, etc. And I don't want you to buy something labelled new that's not truly new either. So, items are not returnable because the wrong size was ordered, or because of a change of heart or preference, or etc. This is so that everyone who buys something from me will receive something new when the item is new, and not something picked-over.
RETURNS ARE ACCEPTED PROVIDED that the problem is that the item is substantially different from what is stated on its sale page. Please contact me to talk as your first step. If you make arrangements with me to return something, you have 10 days from our "convo" to return it; if it's not returned by that date, no refund will be issued. Questions? Concerns? Please convo/contact me to talk. :+)
