Announcement
Welcome! If you are interested in handmade, high-fire stoneware and porcelain pottery thrown with the emphasis on gesture and movement, then maybe you'll find something you like here.
Many years ago I learned to throw perfectly centered pots. Now, I believe some of my best pots are thrown without being perfectly centered or are deliberately knocked off center after being centered—thus the name, Off Center Clay. A good pot is every bit as expressive as the best painting or sculpture, plus functional ceramic art appeals to the sense of touch more than any other art form—a hot cup of tea in your hand, a cup of coffee to your lips.
SAFETY:
All the pots that are made to contain food or drink are food-safe, microwave-safe, and dishwasher-safe.
SHIPPING:
Pottery is heavy and fragile so shipping is always expensive. I use 200# test boxes, lots of foam and bubble wrap, double-box when necessary and take the time to pack so that you don't get a box full of shards. Shipping is free for all orders over $35 and shipping is upgraded to Priority mail.
INTERNATIONAL ORDERS:
I do ship internationally. You can find the cost of shipping in the store unless you live in a country that I do not ship to because of problems with delivery, customs or insurance or because other retailers have reported problems shipping to the country you live in (such as Italy, Russia, and Brazil). Shipping will be expensive because the over-packing necessary to avoid breakage adds weight to the package. If It turns out I can ship for significantly less than you were charged (likely if you buy several items) I will refund the over-payment.

5 out of 5 starsThis is my second dog bowl from the same Etsy store. I've had the first one for several years, but when we got another dog, I needed a bigger one, and went back for the same thing, just bigger. It's that good!

5 out of 5 starsOrder turnaround is super fast, like same day fast! And the potter/seller took the extra step to message me directly that it was shipped in additional the Etsy notification. Just opened it up now and there was no way it could break (and it didn’t) unless a rhinoceros stepped on it. ;) great little instruction card included as well as a guarantee card from the craftsman, as well as a similar intend to consider card :) if there was a sixth star, I’d add it.

5 out of 5 starsThe egg poacher arrived today. Super fast and well protected in its packaging. Tried it out using 45 seconds and I’m utterly astounded how awesome this thing is. I buttered the dish and the cooked egg popped out effortlessly and was so tasty! Just added dried chives and a pinch of salt. Will play around with different cooking times but holy cow. This thing is awesome! Worth every penny. And easy clean up too!! So happy I gave this a try.
And thanks for the candy!

Transcending The Functional
I am a studio potter in Lizella, Georgia. Most of the year I concentrate on functional pottery that hopefully transcends its functionality at least a little. These are the pots I sell on Etsy. Part of the year I concentrate on making pots that transcend the functional to the point that function takes a distant second place to expression. These are pots for shows and galleries.
Let's face it, a plastic pitcher is far more functional than a stoneware pitcher made by a studio potter. The plastic pitcher is lighter, transparent, has a flexible lid, doesn't drip, is dirt cheap and doesn't break. The aesthetic value of the wheel-thrown, handmade pitcher is the only thing it has to justify it costing thirty times more than the plastic pitcher.
Beauty is, as the saying goes, "in the eye of the beholder" and a search on Etsy is bound to pull up many pots that make even the cheap plastic pitcher look good, but we all shoot for beauty and sometimes hit fairly close to the bull's-eye. A good pot is every bit as expressive as the best painting or sculpture, plus functional ceramic art appeals to the sense of touch more than any other art form -- a hot cup of tea in your hand, a cup of coffee to your lips.
I studied pottery under Don Penny at Valdosta State in the early 70’s. In the mid-70’s I made a living in Colorado as a potter. My pots have been exhibited in the Denver Art Museum and galleries in Denver, Boulder, Santa Fe, Taos and other places. For several years I taught classes for the Denver Potters Guild. I stopped potting in the late '70's.
I started potting again in 2007 by firing the first pots I had made in over thirty years in Roger Jamison’s anagama near Juliette, Georgia. Since I ended my 30-year sabbatical I have been accepted in some of the most prestigious galleries and shows in the country and a collector for the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California has purchased several of my wood-fired pots for a future permanent collection there.
In the '70's pottery was a job, now it is a passion.
