Announcement   {Ohio Wood & Iron Works} Dover, Ohio. Exceptionally handcrafted wood accents and forged iron wares, designed in our 1800's era schoolhouse.

*As featured in Ohio Magazine, December 2015 issue.

We are: A father-daughter team united in originating handcrafted designs.

Since 1975, Sam Krantz has handcrafted heirloom custom furniture. Each piece is formed from local hardwoods dried in his Zoarville shop and begins to evolve utilizing his collection of antique hand tools. Sam's ability to craft each piece to suit with regard to size, style, and tone showcases his many talents. Appreciating the appearance and simplicity of such fine pieces is an art in itself.

Each piece is individually crafted by hand. We use select North American hardwoods such as cherry, walnut, ash and beech. Our light, ornamental ironwork is completed using our coal or gas forges. All materials used to construct our pieces are made in the USA!

The methods we employ for design and assembly have been time tested since colonial America.

Don't see exactly what you're looking for or have a vision for a piece that perfectly compliments your home? We love working with customers to design something amazing. To see more photos of custom orders and options, see our gallery on the Ohio Wood and Iron Works Facebook page.

About

A family affair; Ohio Wood and Iron Works is a father/daughter team handcrafting exceptional wood accents and iron wares in our 1800's era schoolhouse

Hi! I'm Jodi and I co-own Ohio Wood and Iron Works. I'm the gal you'll speak with when making a purchase from our shop, but I also do the shipping, photography, and marketing. Of course, I couldn't complete any of these tasks without our craftsman and designer, Sam (otherwise known as "Dad" to me). Dad has been tuning his expertise in this field since the early 1970s. Coincidentally, when I was age five I was seen walking around wearing my own kiddie tool belt, pounding on wood (and other things that weren't meant to be pounded on) with my little red plastic hammer and barking out orders to Dad about what should be "screwed in," and "hammered." I've advanced since then, but can still bark out orders quite well, (or so I've been told!) Over the years, I've worked with Dad achieving a diverse array of knowledge in the construction field. The skills I have learned and the time spent together is irreplaceable. Sometimes, I still need a little assistance with reading a tape measure but that will come someday, right?

As time moved ahead, I could see Dad thoroughly enjoyed and took great pride in making custom furniture. I was driven to find a way to show the world his amazing ability, but wasn't sure how to reach out. A friend told me about Etsy and suddenly, our shop was born! It's been a blessing to have such wonderful customers and a joy knowing our pieces are loved in homes across the globe.

Not only do we love making things with our hands, but it also helps to have a "cool" place to make them in! Our shop is actually an old one room schoolhouse built in the late 1800's. Purchased in 1999, we have worked hard to restore it and preserve its historic value. The slate we use in our trivets is slate that was left from the original dwelling."The shop", as we call it, has been such a tremendous part of our lives we even used it in our logo (that's the sketch you see). Our chalkboards are also salvaged from a local high school. I take great joy in hunting and using salvaged materials. I love looking at a piece in front of me wondering what all it has seen over the years and what the story is behind it, we'll never know. I think about how it was made back then, without power tools and assembly lines. Someone's hard work, time, and sweat went into those salvaged pieces and if it weren't for people who appreciate them, they may be forgotten.

We put heart and soul into every project. Each piece is made uniquely by hand in our shop and is built to be lasting and functional. All materials used are made in the USA. All items are handmade by Sam, never anyone else to assure quality and uniqueness. We take pride in the quality of small business and would never compromise our customer satisfaction to assembly lines or substandard materials.

We would like to thank everyone who visits our Etsy shop, favorites our products, and purchases from us. Without such kind Etsy shoppers, we wouldn't be able to experience this venture. I'm thankful and proud to be in business with my Dad and fortunate we get to spend even more time together, making beautiful things out of wood and making cherished memories!

We welcome inquiries, questions, comments, critiques, and custom orders- and we cherish customer photos sharing how our handmade piece fits perfectly in your home.
