Announcement    Welcome! Old Hickory Forge is a small one man blacksmith shop in the mountains of western NC ran by army veteran and Forged in Fire Finalist John Norwood. all items forged by hammer and anvil. My dream is to one day open a shop where I well off and well equipped enough to offer free classes to Veterans to teach smithing as a PTSD coping technique. Every sale brings me closer to that goal. Thank you for looking!

All forging hammers come with complimentary handle replacement, wood is a naturally imperfect material and handles do break. If your hammer handle breaks, (at the time of this writing I’ve had 4 out of over a thousand hammers sold) and you would like a new hand made one fitted, simply get in touch with me here or on any of my social media, send it back and the handle will be replaced without any charge. The only cost to you will be the initial shipping.

*note, handle replacement service does not apply to struck tooling such as flatters, eye punches, hot cuts, etc.

Forging a way forward

I first found blacksmithing in high school and immediately fell in love with it. My time in the army limited me on my time to practice and develop my skill but this past few years I have been able to start my shop up and can now proudly say that I smith full time! I am incredibly thankful to have such an amazing base of fans and supports who follow me on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram as well as an awesome network of supporters on patreon who make what I do possible! I am a strong proponent of veterans learning to smith as a PTSD coping mechanism. Working at speed, against the loss of heat. Keeping your hands and mind occupied as well as producing a tangible result with your work and being able to see the progress every step of the way has been very good for me mentally. I am proud to offer blades as well as tools for other smiths!
