This was a gift for my mother for the holidays and she absolutely LOVED it! The quality of the product just shows the amount of time and effort that is put into making one. The vendor was very easy to contact and shipping was a breeze! Thank you!

About

String Theory is revived concept art using upcycled materials & colored string to create abstract images and country-rustic home decor.

String Theory is here!

Visit my Facebook page (www.facebook.com/dhstringtheory) to catch new crafts, to inquire about potential projects, or to ask about something you want me to try. Many of my designs originate or are adapted from Pinterest posts.

I experiment with new pattern & technique combinations as well as different surface media all the time. I try to recycle old furniture parts or wood instead of buying mass-produced lumber at hardware stores.

I also use many of the more common vintage bottles from my digs in my crafting. However, as I do not collect vintage bottles myself, you will occasionally see the fruit of my digs posted here or on eBay.

Thanks for looking!

Shop policies

String Theory art, home decor, and furniture is wholly made from upcycled or recycled material. Using such material guarantees truly unique pieces even if duplicates follow the same patterns.

However, this also means that what you see might not be precisely what you get, as listing photos reflect previous projects rather than a standard. Please keep this in mind as you browse through my shop.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
I gladly accept returns
Contact me within: 3 days of delivery
Ship items back within: 7 days of delivery
I don't accept exchanges or cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
I generally don't accept returns because most of my pieces are custom works. All sales are final.

Cancellations can be negotiated, if made within 24 hours, as I generally start preparing the order immediately.

If an item arrives damaged, please contact me within 3 days of delivery. If we agree it can be returned for repair, you are responsible for the cost of shipping it back and I will cover shipping to return it to you.
Payment
Any method accepted by Etsy may be used for online purchases in my Etsy shop. You may message me with offers to consider on furniture items only. No best offers will be considered for artwork.

LOCAL PICKUP/DELIVERY: Cash is always best, but I will be getting Square, and I'm on the list for the Etsy card reader. I work evenings so weekend meetings are best.

NOT ACCEPTED (EVER): money orders, checks, winning lottery tickets, or other non-instantly-verifiable forms of payment. Payment is expected within 2 days unless otherwise agreed.
Shipping
All items are shipped via USPS Priority Mail; all items are packaged with foam or bubble wrap and boxed by default. I do my best to ensure your item will arrive intact despite USPS' best efforts to break it (except for outright running it over with a truck) so if something arrives broken, please file a claim directly with USPS. Priority Mail comes with $50 of insurance.

Other carriers (UPS, DHL, FedEx, etc) may be used at the buyer's request and expense. Other upgrades (shipping service options, international shipping, signature confirmation, insurance, etc) may be added at the buyer's request, risk, and expense.

Please message me prior to purchasing if you intend to request a shipping change or upgrade.
Additional policies and FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Do you ship outside the US?

I am willing to ship outside the US but only after carefully checking shipping service rates to your home country. You assume all risks if your country has a shady postal system.

Please send me a PM if you intend to have a project shipped outside the United States.

How much processing time should I give you for gifts during holiday seasons?

In order to fulfill holiday & birthday gift orders for single pieces, the order should be in at least one month in advance to ensure you receive it by the holiday. With less than one month's lead time, I cannot guarantee delivery in time for the holiday.

My standard S&H automatically allots sufficient time to complete the project for normal purchases or birthdays.

I have an idea for a pattern you're not actively selling.

Let me know! I'll be glad to at least make an attempt, and I will let you know up front if it's beyond my capability to avoid wasting time and resources. Maybe a similar alternate pattern exists that will bring your idea to life. You can PM me through Etsy, or through my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/dhstringtheory.

Do you require a deposit for commissioned pieces?

New and loyal customers need not make deposits for commissioned pieces.
Customers who have previously or canceled orders after the project is started will be required to pay in full or pay a non-refundable deposit prior to the start of any new project.

Payment expected prior to delivery of all commissioned pieces.

Why doesn't my wood grain look as good as the listing photo?

I don't buy wood from hardware stores. Most of my wood comes from two sources: demolished 18th/19th century homes & barns, or salvaged from trash collection. Therefore, I cannot guarantee any wood type or grain used in your art or furniture.

However, if there is a type or grain you'd like to receive, contact me in advance of your purchase to ensure I have something in stock or can get it readily. If I have to buy it, there will not be a markup - what I pay will be the difference in price you will pay.

Please don't leave low or bad feedback because "the grain [you] received wasn't what [you] expected" if you didn't ask.

Wholesale availability

I'm very interested in interacting with any local craft shop or art gallery that wants to consign my work. Please message me through my Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/dhstringtheory
