5 out of 5 starsA wonderful gift from friends, perfectly executed and including our whole menagerie of furry family. Simon was keen to get it exactly right from the start and asked for more photos of the animals from other angles to ensure it was recognisably them. Couldn't be happier! Thank you!

5 out of 5 starsThis is one of the most beautiful things I have ordered on Etsy.
Simon was unbelievably helpful during the process, talking through the options for customisation, and he had it made and posted it to us super fast so it arrived in time for Christmas. My sister and her partner were blown away by the gift, she was in tears she was so happy with it.
I will absolutely be buying another again, this time for myself!
Thank you so much Simon! -

5 out of 5 starsI couldn't recommend Simon's shop enough. From the communication to the craft of the jug itself, everything was absolutely amazing. I had initially ordered a pre-made piece that Simon kindly checked in with me about the slight crazing on the pre-made piece. He offered to create a replica or a custom piece. I was immediately touched by the care and attention he placed for every piece and every customer. I requested a custom piece that was a reimagining of another past pottery of Simon's. I sent him a sketch and this beautiful jug was brought to life. Simon kept me updated throughout the process. And the pottery was packaged extremely carefully! If you're thinking about getting a pre-made piece or a commission, please do it! You'll be happy that you did; each piece is truly one of a kind that is meant to be treasured for life.

I love making pottery, all my work is totally one-off, thrown on my pottery wheel, then designed and illustrated by hand, no transfers or anything similar is used, every single piece is an original piece of art. I like to experiment and draw new things, but I work by myself so if something catches your eye it's definitely best to grab it before it goes (story of life actually), I may not be making anything similar for a while. Much of my work is inspired by my dog, Uly, but I also love illustrating fish, flowers and the countryside. I live at the foot of the North Downs, just below the Pilgrim's Way in the Kent countryside. Henry the Eighth's houses of Hever Castle (Ann Boleyn's childhood home) and Knole are nearby, and I'm not that far from Sissinghurst (Vita Sackville-West's former home with its famous White Garden).
ABOUT SIMON AND OLLEY POTTERY
Simon Olley threw his first pot aged 9. He has worked for some years in London successfully as a designer and illustrator. He now devotes his skills to making unique ceramics from his home studio in Kent, England.
The ceramics he throws on his pottery wheel are made using a variety of earthenware, stoneware and porcelain clays. He then decorates the clay, usually at leatherhard stage (damp but not soft), with a combination of slips, oxides and glazes. He may scratch into the surface with a range of small tools – a technique called sgraffito. The work is fired at least twice inthe kiln. The final stage is the pottery being given an all over clear glaze and fired in his kiln at temperatures between 1100 and 1300 degrees centigrade – all of the decoration is fixed under glaze so cannot be washed off or eroded (as ceramic transfers can be). The result is original, impervious works of craftsmanship – heirlooms that could last for thousands of years.

Frequently asked questions
Wholesale availability
All of my pieces are handmade and decorated as one-offs, for this reason, wholesale is not something I am really able to do. Why not consider purchasing a one-off ceramic as a display piece?
Sizing details
I try to be accurate about sizing but as everything is handmade there is some inevitable variation in sizing. If the size of an item is crucial, please check with me before ordering.
Delivery to USA
Please ensure you give me a 'phone number as UPS won't accept a USA delivery without one. Most of the work I send to USA I am able to use the incredible UPS Priority Guaranteed service, with around 5 days for delivery and fully tracked, I cannot fault it.
Shortly after dispatch, you will receive a tracking number, this allows you to follow the journey of your pottery via the UPS website.
Any queries at any stage of the delivery process please contact me.
Delivery to Europe, Asia, Australasia and beyond
Please ensure you give me a 'phone number as UPS won't accept a delivery without one. Most of the work I send abroad I am able to use the incredible UPS Priority Guaranteed service, with around 3-7 days for delivery and fully tracked.
Shortly after dispatch, you will receive a tracking number, this allows you to follow the journey of your pottery via the UPS website.
Any queries at any stage of the delivery process please contact me.
Delivery of large items
For very large ceramic items abroad (such as a very large platter), I can shop for the best shipping available at the time, I ensure my work is very securely packed before shipment. Please contact me for shipping of large items so I can get a quote. I refund to the customer any shipping overs.
Relocated or moving?
Please ensure you are using the correct address for your order, especially if you or the recipient has moved or relocated recently. Please do double-check the delivery address you are giving!
Local customers wishing to collect their pottery
Local customers who wish to collect their work directly from me, please contact me to arrange a suitable time. Alternatively I am usually able to deliver locally.
Delivery in person
Very locally (within Sevenoaks area) I'm more than happy to drop off completed work if you or the recipient is for example, housebound or does not have transport.
Gift wrapping and packaging
My gift wrapping is pretty basic. My emphasis is always on delivering my work safely and securely and this means strong and functional packaging. If you select gift packaging there will not be a priced-up invoice in the package, though if it is a delivery to the States or other country by UPS it may need to have an invoice both inside and attached outside for customs clearance. I do include an attractive Olley Pottery postcard with all my work and I am more than happy to write on this a handwritten message for the recipient, just let me know when you make your order or send me a message shortly after.
Is your work Corona Virus safe?
All my work has been washed in detergent before packing. Packing or filler materials are either virgin-quality or long-stored before use. Obviously where delivery is involved we rely on the providers (UPS etc) to use the same precautions as they do with all mail order items. Signatures are not collected at the moment, packages are delivered to a suitable safe location (porch etc) and usually photographed as proof of delivery. Great care is taken with all work and deliveries.
