Il nostro percorso di adozione:
UNO. Quella era la parola che continuava a riaffiorare più e più volte. In ogni studio biblico che facevamo. In ogni sermone che ascoltavamo. Ovunque ci girassimo, la parola UNO si radicava nei nostri cuori. Mentre sentivamo e vedevamo la difficile situazione degli orfani in tutto il mondo, fame, malnutrizione, malattie, abbandono e numeri insufficienti per difenderli, sapevo che avremmo dovuto agire. Non c'era scelta. Ma avevo paura, paura di cosa significasse per la nostra famiglia e se fossimo pronti. Era questa la chiamata di Dio per noi o stavo solo reagendo all'emozione?
Ero a bordo da molto tempo, ero attivamente coinvolta in diversi ministeri di assistenza e difesa degli orfani. Mio marito, Russ, mi aveva sempre sostenuta quando andavo in missione e parlavo nelle chiese sulla difesa degli orfani. Ma mi sosteneva da lontano, facendo la tipica cosa da uomo, inventando tutte le scuse per aggiungere un figlio
alla nostra famiglia tramite adozione: "Abbiamo già 3 figli, semplicemente non possiamo permettercene di più". "Abbiamo una grande dinamica familiare: cosa succederebbe se arrivassero e la interrompessero?"
Nella sua testardaggine, Dio ha portato l'artiglieria pesante. Uno dei nostri figli ha iniziato a mandargli messaggi dal mio telefono, "Papà, non possiamo salvarne solo UNO?" Ancora, ancora e ancora. Siamo andati a una conferenza sull'adozione e uno degli oratori principali ha detto qualcosa del tipo "Non ignorare che Dio potrebbe parlare attraverso i tuoi figli per spingerti ad adottare". Boom.
Dopo aver visto ogni segno di Dio, eccetto quello lampeggiante al neon, Russ ha finalmente abbandonato tutte le scuse mondane che aveva usato per scappare dalla chiamata delle nostre famiglie. Dio ha continuato a chiarire che l'adozione era la Sua volontà per la nostra famiglia e siamo felici di dire che abbiamo iniziato il processo di adozione a marzo 2011.
Ora, questo viaggio ha fatto un giro completo. Josiah è a casa da molti anni ed è pronto a visitare il suo paese d'origine. Quindi ora, invece di finanziare la sua adozione, stiamo cercando di finanziare il suo viaggio di ritorno in Etiopia, dove farà volontariato in un orfanotrofio non lontano da dove viveva.
Con il nostro logo e i nostri design accattivanti, speriamo di sensibilizzare l'opinione pubblica sulla difficile situazione degli orfani. Speriamo di aiutare gli altri a fare la differenza nella vita di uno. Per salvare UNO. Adotta UNO. Fai per il più piccolo di UNO di questi. Fai un cambiamento per UNO. Non possiamo fare la differenza nella vita di tutti, ma possiamo fare la differenza nella vita di UNO. E UNO può cambiare tutto.
Our Adoption Journey:
ONE. That was the word that kept coming up over and over. In every Bible Study we did. In every sermon we heard. Everywhere we turned, the word ONE was being ingrained into our hearts. As we heard and saw the plight of orphans around the world—hunger, malnutrition, disease, neglect, and insufficient numbers to defend them--I knew then that we would have to act. There was no choice. But I was afraid—afraid of what it meant for our family and if we were ready for it. Was this God’s calling for us or was I just reacting from emotion?
I had been on board for a long time—I was actively involved in several orphan care and advocacy ministries. My husband, Russ, had always supported me as I went on mission trips and spoke at churches about defending the fatherless. But he supported me from a distance, doing the typical guy thing, coming up with all the excuses about adding a child
to our family through adoption—“We already have 3 children, we simply can’t afford more”. “We have a great family dynamic—what if they come in and disrupt that?”
In his stubbornness, God brought in the heavy artillery. One of our children began to text him from her my phone, “Dad, can’t we just save ONE?” Over, and over, and over. We went to an adoption conference and one of the keynote speakers said something to the effect of “Don’t disregard that God may be speaking through your children to move you to adopt.” Boom.
After seeing every sign from God except the flashing neon one, Russ finally laid down all the worldly excuses that he had used to run away from our families calling. God continued to make clear adopting was His will for our family and we are happy to say that we began the adoption process in March 2011.
Now, this journey has come full circle. Josiah has been home many years and is ready to visit his home country. So now, instead of funding his adoption - we are looking to fund his journey back to Ethiopia where he will volunteer in a orphanage not far from where he lived.
With our logo and eye catching designs, we hope to bring awareness to the plight of the orphan. We hope to help others to make a difference in the life of one. To save ONE. Adopt ONE. Do for the least of ONE of these. Make a change for ONE. We can’t make a difference in the lives of everyone, but we can make a difference in the life of ONE. And ONE can change everything.
