About

Slow fashion for kids

Hi, I’m Sparrow, the owner, operator, and creative mind behind Pumpkin & Bunny. The idea behind P & B was born of my love to sew, and a disgust with the fast fashion world of baby clothes. As a mom of two, it was easy to get caught up in the endless cycle of stuff that kids supposedly “need.” Toys, gadgets, gizmos, and the endless pile of clothes. Clothes that wear out after just a few washes. Clothes that fall apart the first time you wash them, before the baby has even had a chance to wear them. (This actually happened. True story.) Clothes that are essentially the same outfit, over and over again, with little variation. Especially for boys. T-shirt and shorts for boys, t-shirts with ruffles or glitter and leggings for girls. That’s your options. I found myself wondering if this endless cycle of throw away clothing was really my only option. And I turned to my sewing machine for the answer. Now, after making clothes for my kids for several years, I wanted to offer that option for a better wardrobe to other moms. The idea that kid’s clothing should be cheap and disposable is a myth that the fast fashion industry has sold us. The clothes I make, and love, are the pieces my kids can wear from season to season. The pieces that hold up to being well-loved, and the ones I can pass on to other families when we’re done with them. I don’t want the clothes I make to be thrown away when they’re outgrown. I want them to be passed on or passed down, and I want them to look as good then as they did the day you bought them. That’s what Pumpkin & Bunny is about, and that’s what I’m all about. I've applied this mindset to both my boutique and to my patterns. All of my patterns include all the couture techniques, tips, and tricks that I use when sewing.
