About

Welcome to Ooakdolly - Your source of One-of-a-Kind Creations

It all started over fifty years ago, with my mother teaching me to sew, then to crochet, then attempting to teach me to knit.... 'knot' my forte but I am getting better.

Then it was making apple dolls, macrame, and about anything that was deemed a craft. In the 70's we got into photography... not just taking pictures it was building our own darkrooms, loading our own film, Making our own prints.

In the mid-70's I became a single mom. Life interrupted and my creative endeavors took a back seat for a few years. 'Starving Artist' did not look good on the resume' nor did it support a growing boy.

During that period I went back to college - and took a subject I did not take at ANY time in my earlier education - Art... I discovered sculpting, painting and just a general love of art and art history in general.

In the mid 90's my Mom introduced me to reproduction Porcelain DollCrafting - I fell in love with one-of-a-kind doll crafting (Ooakdolly.) I bought my first kiln, (now I have two) a ton of doll supplies and yards and yards of fabric. My sewing skills were a definite advantage, as well as years of playing in the 'mud' ...

The turn of the century was difficult for us, we lost our Dad in 2001 and my middle sister in 2006. My Mom had to have several major surgeries over the next few years. After dealing with all the loss and the pain I realized I had lost my passion for creating... anything. The passion did return and Mom and I moved forward together.

And now my passions have expanded to include Quilting, Felting and making One-of-a-kind Children's & Dolls clothing & shoes. I love doing custom Machine Embroidery and especially incorporating them into my quilts.

My Mom passed from Pancreatic Cancer in March of 2014. I feel like she is still with me, not allowing me to loose those passions she had fostered in me, and this loss so far has not caused me to tuck them away, but I am still counting on the old saying "time heals all wounds" because this one is very deep,

I have put my future in Gods hands and I hope and pray that I can make a living from home, and I can keep making some things, especially new friends.

I believe God wants me to do my very best in everything I do. That belief was a legacy of both of my parents.

I am so thankful for the great people God has placed in my life.
God bless you all & God bless your days.
