Opus Americanum or "American Work" is fine embroidery designed and worked by hand in fresh and simple designs that beautify your home and world. We sell cross stitch charts, embroidery kits, and other embroidered items and embroidery supplies. Mary Emanuel designs and stitches all of the products and is happy to be able to bring beauty, hope, love and embroidery together and share it with others. All the designs are inspired by a desire to help restore traditional feminine arts and encourage women and girls to spend time making things with and for friends and family. We want to see an increase in an appreciation for beautiful things in the home and...everywhere. Many of our designs are inspired by people who exemplify the true, the good and the beautiful and lived their lives in pursuit of those ideals.
The store isn't just about things "American". Opus Americanum brings inspiration from the best of all cultures around the world as well the classics of the "Old World" to our customers so that we can all share in making the world a more beautiful place.
I was born to stitch with relatives from Norway, France and Germany who made beautiful items with crochet, hardanger embroidery, and sewing. I love to create embroidery designs and kits for others who also love to stitch or want to begin. I see my customers as my collaborators and partners in the creative process.
I design much of my work in cross stitch and 14 count Aida cloth because it is easy and fun for beginners to work with and the materials are easily available. I like the idea that my designs are accessible and achievable by a wide group of people, especially children and beginners. Most of the designs and kits however will look equally beautiful on higher thread count fabrics and linens.
Some of my designs make use of linen cashel and a variety of colors and are great for experienced stitchers or those looking for a challenge.
