Announcement    COVID-19 Winter Lockdown Update 10/11/2020

Hi everyone! I hope you're all keeping well and safe.

During our second lockdown, I will be reducing the number of visits I make to the post office each week. I'm currently heading to the post office only on TUESDAYS and FRIDAYS each week.
If you need an item delivered more urgently, please contact me first to see if I can make an exception.

The postal service within the UK has been remarkably efficient so far - I expect there to be minor delays, but items shouldn't take too long to reach you.
If you are ordering from outside the UK, however, please be aware that shipping times are likely to increase drastically. If you're ordering for Christmas, I'd recommend doing so in November to be on the safe side.

FRAMES - My stockist is out of my usual frames. I'm working to find a new source and equivalent frames, but this is looking to be a slow process. In the meantime, if I have an item already framed, it will be made available as such, but otherwise I'll be selling prints and originals without frames. (This does also have the benefit that you can choose your own at your leisure, of course.)

Inspired by nature both light and dark

Just like many other creatives here on etsy, I've always loved to paint and to create things. As odd as it sounds, I also just love to look at things; to figure out the story behind them. It's not so much a passion as simply the way I am, the way I see things.

I was lucky enough to find a creative job straight out of university, though one very different to the etsy store I'm running now, in the video games industry. I worked in an amazing studio filled with wonderful creative people. I moved from 3D digital art, to level design and finally into production (more of a management role). I worked there for just over 10 years, before our studio closed.

During my time in that larger studio, I found that creative industries are great for inspiration, but it can be hard to find the time to act on that inspiration.
I now work part time for a much smaller independent game studio. It still provides me with inspiration, but importantly it also allows me time to explore my own creative projects.

For me, Other Side Silly is a chance to explore and enjoy simply being creative again. And I love it!

The paintings you'll find here have often been described to me a 'creepy cute'. I like that description, and find that the adorable and unusual often compliment each other wonderfully. Besides, I can't help it!

So, I'd like to invite people to experience a little of both sides of the world I imagine. I hope this will appeal to anyone looking for something a little different or unusual. I'm taking an alternative approach to gifts and greetings cards, where things can be that little bit darker and that little bit more personal.

As for the name, 'Other Side Silly' - well, that started as a little joke I'd write on the back of cards made for friends and family. Now it represents a desire to see more depth in all things and all situations, to look from the other side. Anyway, it sort of stuck. ;)

Frequently asked questions
Gift wrapping and packaging

I'm happy to gift wrap any item, and can add personalised messages to the packing slip on request.
Just let me know when you place your order!
If you would like an item to be sent directly to someone else, don't forget to add their address to your etsy account. I will only be shipping to addresses provided by etsy (not paypal, etc.)

Shipping

Postage Days:
In order to have time to work on my creations during the week, I no longer make daily trips to the post office. I usually post on Monday, Wednesday & Thursday. No items are posted over the weekend.

UK & International Orders:
All prints, greetings cards, bookmarks and mirrors will be posted using Royal Mail's standard (non-tracked) services.
Hand painted artwork and needle-felted items will be posted using tracked services which will require a signature on delivery. If you would like me to send other items by tracked services, you must contact me before placing your order so that I can apply the relevant postage costs.

Postage Materials & Recycling

Wherever possible I try to recycle postal materials such as jiffy bags, to help protect our environment.
If your order is to be sent directly as a gift and you would specifically prefer that I use new packaging, just let me know.

Plastic Free Greetings Cards

In support of the Naked Cards campaign, I have started shipping some of my greetings cards without cellophane sleeves.

I've found that the envelopes provide plenty of protection during transit so I'm trying to do my bit to reduce plastic waste. If you would prefer that I package your cards in biodegradable cellophane sleeves, please just let me know when you order.

If your card arrives in a cellophane sleeve, this is because I do still have a number of cards already packaged in this way. To avoid unnecessary waste, these will be sent out as they are, until I restock.

Covid-19

I am still posting as normal within the UK.
International orders that use standard delivery are now being accepted for European countries only, but I will continue to assess the postal situation and adjust my delivery options accordingly. Please check my shop announcements for any new details.

Please also rest assured that I of course wash my hands at frequent intervals and keep my work surfaces clean and sanitised throughout the making and packaging processes.
