Video summary: The process of making a scarf with our Jacob sheep wool- starting with the sheep.

Jacob Sheep Fleeces and Fiber Arts

Jacob sheep wool is considered medium fine and has an average staple length of 3-6 inches. It is very light in the grease which makes it a great wool to try spinning in the grease, but if that's not your style, it washes up beautifully with little weight lost in washing. Our flock of Jacob sheep has been selectively bred to produce excellent quality fleeces for hand spinning and wool arts of many kinds.

Every one of our sheep has a unique fleece quality, style, and color ratio. We try to match each fiber artist with the fleece that is best suited for their purposes.

As fiber artists ourselves, we understand the importance of excellent wool quality with little vegetable matter or second cuts to get in the way of you making something amazing with the wool.

Our farm is also a part of the Shave 'Em to Save 'Em Initiative. It’s a program that recognizes fiber artists for using wool from breeds of sheep on the Livestock Conservation Priority List which includes our Jacob Sheep.
