Greetings glad to have you visit me at Out o’ the Woods! I am pleased you’ve taken time to look around. I am Vaughn Solomon owner and resident craftsman creating practical works that are as pleasing to use or display. All of the pieces available for sale in this shop are handmade by me in my woodshop a little north of Cincinnati, Ohio.
I love wood, the touch, the smell and the intricate variation in the grain. If it is my shop, I made it. From cutting the log to buffing out the finish, all by my hands. Sometimes sets may be offered, they will be similar and generally from the same tree, but no two pieces will be exactly alike.
Turning wood is a hobby and a passion. I take great care in producing each piece as though I will be displaying in my own home. Some pieces in the shop were not made in the past year and they have been in my own collection. I take great care in the creation of a treasure that will give you enormous pleasure and perhaps become an heirloom to be passed on. It will please me greatly to have my works used on your table and displayed in your home. Thank you again for stopping in.
I use the finest quality hardware I can find for mills, Bottle stoppers and pens. All pepper mill grinding mechanisms are CrushGrind® Mill Mechanism with advanced ceramic construction. The Mills are well suited for peppers, salt as well as any hard spice.
Every item is handmade and I turn a variety of items, my work requires time and effort to create. It is not my goal to create in volume, I simply want release the treasures that you will be to proud display in your home, use on your table or give as a gift, which will last a lifetime. I’m not here to make a living, just trying to reduce the cost of my hobby.
I don't really like to take orders for custom work. If you see something in the sold category and you would like to have one similar, let me know. If I have something on hand or have wood that might work, we can work something out. I will not take a deposit and you will not receive a promise. I’ll try to make the item and give you first chance. If you don’t want it, I will simply add it to the shop and we will remain friends.
I am an active member of the American Wood Turners Association and the Ohio Valley Wood Turners Guild where I compete in the masters division.

Returns and exchanges
After making every effort to offer as many photos as it takes for you to see your purchase and point out anything that one might find objectionable. I understand that when you receive it is the first time you really get to see it. If you are not completely delighted, carefully pack it back in the original packaging to send it back at your cost. Let me know within twentyfour hours of receiving your piece that you wish to send it back. I track and insure all shipments and will expect the same of a return. I will assist in any way you need. When I get the return and inspect it. Found in good condition, I will refund your purchase price less cost incurred.
Payment
I offer Quick Pay through Etsy for your convenience. You may add your purchase into your cart and click pay when finished shopping. Etsy will do the rest. I do not add the cost for this convenience to your price.
If you are not a card holder and wish to pay through PayPal, I will be glad to send you an invoice to complete the sale. Just include the email address you wish for me to use if it is other than your Etsy contact.
.
Shipping
I travel for work but rarely out for more than three days. I will pack your items as soon as I return and get them on their way the very next shipping day. If you need something very fast, you should check in to see if I am home, before making your purchase. All shipping prices are estimates. If what I have listed is over by more than $1.00, I will refund you the difference. I am now using shipping through Etsy for all sales. The prices negotiated are the best I can find. Some of the larger items that might get too costly to send USPS Priority will go USPS Standard Post unless you select the upgrade. The quotes shipping price includes insurance to cover your purchase and the shipping cost. Etsy will provide tracking for your package and send you updates. The listed pricing is for the lower 48 states.
I will ship to any US region as well as internationally. It is not possible to list all prices for all areas. If you send me a convo through Etsy that you want a piece pending shipping cost, I will reserve that piece for you while we get the shipping cost. All orders for these areas must be calculated before closing the sale.
