A European Odyssey

I discovered an interest in drawing on cups and mugs while at my first office job. I began each day with a tall, styrofoam cup of coffee (compliments of the office break room) and, while answering phone calls, I would decorate the cups with elaborate scenes and detailed characters.

To my delight, my co-workers loved my drawings! And, it wasn't long before I began having regular visitors to my cubicle, each looking to catch a quick glimpse of my daily creation.

I was even asked to do some "custom" styrofoam cups for their friends and family! Looking back, working on the cups not only served as a creative outlet for me (in a not-so-creative environment), but they also made the work day fly by.

Now, many years, and many life / career changes later, I have finally found a way to make those drawings permanent. What's more, I had the amazing opportunity to spend the past few years in Germany where I was surrounded by inspirational architecture and a new and interesting culture. Not only that, but the rest of Europe was only a train ride away.

I was fortunate enough to experience quite a few countries and cultures, and enjoyed endless hours of sipping away in cafes from Paris to Istanbul.

I've recently returned to the Philadelphia area, and, while I miss exploring quaint German villages, painting the mugs reminds of my time there--including all the amazing aromas, sounds, and feelings that helped make that chapter of my life so unforgettable.

So, when you buy one of my mugs, know that each little street and alleyway, each character and story, comes directly from a treasured memory or feeling. I hope that these mugs give you as much inspiration and happiness that they do for me. Thank you for stopping by Overseas Sipping!

***Update: Since returning home, I have also begun researching my family ancestry. Among other interesting discoveries, I found out that one of my great grandfathers had come to America from Austria in the mid-1800's. He painted fine China for a living! I wonder if he'd approve of my coffee mugs!? One thing's for sure: we're linked across the centuries by a love for decorating tea and coffee ware!
