About

Uplifting inner city neighborhoods, one candle at a time.

Hi, I'm Paige. I hand make natural soy wax candles and I am from The Bronx.
For many, the perception of New York City is what is portrayed in the movies or what "tourist trap" visitors flock to during holidays. Growing up in The Bronx, witnessing the realities of inner city life, and seeing the harsh lifestyles that can exist in the urban environment, my outlook is not entirely that of the glitz and glam of New York City. Losing my mother at a young age to criminal activity, my father tried his best to keep me involved in the arts, a passion of my mother’s, as a way to keep me disciplined, motivated, and experience a creative and brighter element of life. From ceramics and photography to painting and installation art, I was constantly creating and crafting. This creative passion is dear to my heart to this day.

Although some people do not consider crafting as an art, according to Webster's dictionary, art is, "something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings." Through my natural handmade products, I exercise my artistic talents and contribute to a healthier society.

My ultimate goal is to help improve inner city low income neighborhoods through craftsmanship. I have donated to non-profit organizations and continue to offer donations, products, and volunteer when I can as a way to give back to various New York City communities. A few organizations that I have been involved with include the Bronx River Art Center, Andrew Freedman Home, & Queens Community House.

With your help, Paige's Candle Co will evolve into helping all of New York City....and who knows, maybe the world.

What is a Note Profile?

Notes are descriptors of scents that are separated into three classes: Top, Middle, and Base. Notes form a fragrance. Think notes in perfumery, ingredients for a recipe, or aromas in wine. A Note Profile specifies exactly what notes you are smelling in a candle. Multiple fragrances are blended to create a pleasant aroma for each candle.

What type of wax do you use?

I use soy wax derived from American grown soy beans. Soy wax is a more natural alternative than that of the commonly used paraffin wax used to make candles. Soy wax is a hydrogenated form of soybean oil while inexpensive paraffin wax is made from petroleum, coal or oil shale.

What are your wicks made of?

All natural braided cotton.

What is the best way to care for my new candle?

1. Before lighting your candle, ensure it is on a steady surface away from flammable materials, children, and pets.

2. When your candle is lit, allow for the burn pool (melted wax) to reach all surrounding sides of the container before extinguishing. This prevents the candle from tunneling or burning unevenly.

3. Trim the wick to 1/4 inch after each use or when it begins to mushroom (distort). This prevents excessive soot from accumulating and contributes to an even burn.

4. To optimize the performance of your candle, burn at 4 hour intervals.

Do you use artificial coloring in your candles?

No

Why do some candles have an off white or yellow tint if you do not use color?

Natural Soy wax is white in color. The fragrance blends that I use range from clear to dark brown. Fragrance oil may tint the soy wax producing an off white to yellowish wax color.
