Announcement   Jewelry boxes, Coffee Grinders, Salt and Pepper sets, Trinket Boxes, Pepper Grinders, rolling pins and Cutting Boards are just some of the creations that find their way out of my workshop. I am continuously looking for new projects and challenging myself to create new works of art.

To me, each tree writes its own story. Its grains and knots tell a history that is measured in decades and generations, telling of times and events that are only now dim memories and half-remembered fables. With each item I create, care is taken to reveal the grains of in the wood, letting their stories show through. I feel that when I make something, my goal is always to bring out the beauty of the wood that I am using. I take great pleasure and enjoyment in telling the stories told in the different woods I use.

I am happy and excited to announce that we now have a photo voltaic system to power not only the wood shop, but also our house. The system will produce approximately 100% of our electricity needs. We also have a solar hot water tube system and my website, www.pkbrownwoodworking.com, is hosted with a green host. We try to do whatever we can to keep our impact on the environment to a minimum and this is just a start.

You can see what I am up to with the shop, our adventures, the garden and chickens, by following me on Instagram @pkbrownwoodworking

For care and usage instructions for the Post Office Boxes, Coffee Grinders, Pepper Grinders, and Salt/Pepper sets, please visit my website www.pkbrownwoodworking.com

Take care and enjoy your day.

And in the beginning, a burl. This is what a lot of the pepper grinder burls start from.
One of many phases during the creation of a Ann's jewelry box.
A new style of jewelry box for my line of jewelry boxes. The original one/first one was a custom order. It is named after the original, custom one, "Ann's jewelry box.

About

The Start.......

I am happy to announce that our house and the wood shop are “green”. We had a photovoltaic system installed that will produce approximately 100% of our needs. We also have a solar hot water system (tube) for our hot water needs. On a final note, my website pkbrownwoodworking.com is on a green host.

I started really investing in tools (a lathe, band saw, planner, jointers, router table, etc.) after my stint with computers, however looking back it seems like I grew up with the basic tools always at hand. I had been making everything from bookshelves to bird feeders with just a hammer and jig saw , so it seemed only natural to start really working in wood after my daughters had graduated from college.

The shop is a one man show. Everything crafted here, I make. I go to the mill, I hand select the wood, I choose what to make from what pieces, and I carefully craft each item so that the beauty of the wood is allowed to shine through. Going to the mill is one of my favorite parts of this; I am the proverbial kid in a candy shop. Thankfully, my truck and shop can only hold so much lumber at one time. I enjoy sorting through the wood and being surprised at the hidden beauty in each piece once I start working with it. Once its on the lathe, it is almost as though the wood knows what its going to be, regardless of how I prepped it before or what idea I had before I started working on it. I enjoy what I am doing and I have a really good time doing it. My shop is nothing fancy, but it is a place where I can let a little beauty into this world.

Take care and enjoy your day
