My Story – A Passion for Antiques and Collectibles

An appreciation for the “older things” in life has always been a staple for me. Being an avid reader, I love to devour a good book, be it fiction or nonfiction. Hindsight shows me, without surprise, the first old thing that I really learned to appreciate was old paperback books. Partially because of price (it is always about the price isn’t it) and the look. Old paperbacks and serial novels have some unique and amazing art on them. Then the appeal of hard cover books began to squeeze itself into that special place in my heart of fondness. I will always own more books than I could ever read, and even more than I care to discuss here! For years and years, I was well-behaved in that I could keep my passion for old things restrained to my book collection.

Then the Internet revolution took hold and I learned I could share my passion of books with others and share books that I no longer had the space for or the ones I may have already read. So then at the time I evolved from sharing books, to sharing previously viewed VHS tapes, I didn’t have to rent a movie ever, I bought them used and sold them whenever I was done with them.
It was then that I met an auctioneer who was into it all. Everything from pottery to glassware, to stuff that nobody could lug around. It was some nice furniture, until it was time to ship it. Piece after piece, after piece of collectible merchandise passed in front of me and it all was just another item that really did not pique my interest. Then one day when a Murano hand blown glass basket was placed under my nose, everything changed. My interest was now piqued, wow that’s not only unique and pretty but it also got my heart pumping, and that was it. I was done for.
It started a frenzy as I tried to replicate that initial emotion of awe, with other glass pieces (it worked), then I progressed to exquisite patterned dinnerware, and then art pottery. All this excitement renewed my love for old books. Oh hey, look at these old postcards, aren’t they amazing. It has been a love affair with ‘old stuff’ ever since. Then tragedy struck and life got dark, so dark that I would not wish it upon another human being. I lost interest in life and all that it offered. Thanks to the heavens that was a temporary phase, but at the time it didn’t feel that way.

Now I have a revitalized interest and love for these things of inspiration and beauty and wish to share them with the world. So, every item you find listed here in this store let it be known that on one level or another it is an item that I feel worth sharing. It is an item that took my breath away from it unique beauty, or just something that fired up the old nostalgia. In the process of personally curating these items for your selection that for every piece listed here, there are twenty or more pieces that were passed over because they did not make the cut. In my opinion you are looking at the best of the best. An item could have been old and worth something, but I left it where it sat because it just didn’t take my breath away. So, it was left for someone else. Maybe it was a disservice to you to leave it behind to gather more dust. If it was, then I apologize, but I have no regrets in the items that I have shared with you, and will continue to share for some time!
