There are two things I’ve been doing as long as I can remember: writing and making visual art. Although I spent the first part of my life as a writer, art always remained important to me -- for instance, I illustrated one of my own books, PLASTIC JESUS -- but I fell out of practice and lost touch with the joy of the creative visual act. I pretty much stopped writing fiction after Hurricane Katrina and the failure of the federal levees in 2005, and for a few years I did nothing creative aside from gardening. In 2011 I had the great good fortune to meet my life partner, New Orleans artist Grey Cross, who inspired me to try my own hand at visual art again.

I got my Etsy start in 2012, offering original artwork and limited-edition prints. Eventually my output came to include jewelry: my Mardi Gras-inspired bracelets, skull bead rosaries, and more, known collectively as NOLA Jewels. More recently I've added signed copies of my own books to the shop, and a line of products reflecting another of my longtime interests, Voodoo. While I am not an initiate of any religion (other than having been baptized as a Catholic), I grew up as a New Orleans native around gris-gris and folk magic, and have been studying and practicing them for nearly thirty years. My personal system incorporates elements of New Orleans Voodoo and hoodoo, Catholicism, Santería, and traditional rootwork. In addition to the items sold here, I am available to create custom mojo bags, oils, floor washes, spiritual baths, rosaries, and voodoo dolls tailored to your needs and budget.

I aim to make my artwork and other offerings affordable. I'm always willing to consider best offers, or to barter for animal bones/teeth, interesting costume jewelry bits and bobs, old toys and doll parts, and such. (No finished artwork, please -- we don't even have the space to store our own!)
