This arrived promptly, well-packaged, and looked true to the pictures. We ended up placing a second order because we were so thrilled with the first set!

About

Elany has been doing art and selling it since High school...it is the love of her life.......

About Us

After several years making airbrushed t-shirts and Jiri hand-turning mesquite wood vases on a lathe, Jiri and Elany started up their hand painted tile business in 1982 while living in Arizona. They have exhibited their tiles @ art shows in the South West, California and as far away as the Netherlands. They are also currently wholesaling their tiles to select Craft Galleries in the US and Canada.
With a BFA in art from U of AZ in 1972 Elany is the tile artist and colorist. Elany’s world travels have infused and inspired her by exposure to the varied cultures and artistic genres she witnessed.

Jiri was a “just off the boat” refugee from Czechoslovakia when Elany and Jiri met in Venice Beach, California. Jiri adds his “Old World” standards of quality and expertise to the tile business….whether its firing the kiln or screening the tiles or coming up with new ideas Jiri puts in his “two cents” worth. Lately Jiri has been experimenting with hand made raku-fired tiles whose beautiful sheen and colors never cease to amaze all of us.

In 1984 they settled in Northern California on 5 acres in the little town of Rough and Ready. It is there with the help of their four children that their tile business flourished. The kids are all grown now and Jiri and Elany continue to create new designs and come up with new ideas for their beautiful tiles

Living in the little town of Rough and Ready on a dirt road in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of Northern California with several ponds. chickens, rabbits, a dog , cat and some parakeets...... I am surrounded by nature and the wildlife that frequents here which provides me with unlimited inspiration for my designs.

With a lifetime love of art and design and a BFA from U of AZ I have been creating these tiles with the help of my family for over 30 years. I especially love perfecting the color schemes which often entails many experimental test firings to complete the desired result.

My initial line drawing design is first hand screened onto a red quarry tile one tile at a time. The tile is then individually hand painted with ceramic glazes and set to dry before firing in our kiln to 1800o.F until the jewel-like colors emerge for you to enjoy as a
painting, set permanently into a wall or used as a kitchen hot plate on your dining room table.

Useful, functional and beautiful plus it will last 2000 years!
