About

Welcome to My Antonia Jewelry! My Antonia is a classic American novel by Willa Cather and one of my favorites since college. I named by daughter Antonia, and now I am naming my shop for her.

The items in my shop are sourced from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe. I hunt out antique shops and work with estate buyers to find well-loved high quality vintage pieces that I can pass on to you at a reasonable price. Pieces that can benefit from restoration go to a trusted jeweler who learned his craft in Europe.

I travel overseas about once a year to scout out new sources. Scotland is one of my favorite destinations and both Edinburgh and Glasgow have yielded some treasures that I’m keeping for myself!

Much of the jewelry in this shop was made in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the era in which My Antonia was written and takes place. Many of the older antique diamonds you’ll find here were cut specifically to catch the sparkle of candlelight. Craftsmen worked with each gemstone to bring out its inner beauty and the cut of the stone may be unique in itself depending on its age. Here you’ll find older styles like rose cut, old mine cut, old European cut and cuts that are transitional to modern cuts. Older diamonds are conflict free, unlike many mined in more recent times.

If you have questions about particular items, please contact me. I’m always happy to provide more photographs and additional information. My goal is to make sure you are happy with your purchase and I will work with you to ensure it.

My fascination with antique jewelry dates back to when, as a child, I'd listen to my grandmother's stories. Her storytelling made the late 1800s and early 20th century come alive to me and started me collecting small items that seemed part of those times. Jewelry spoke to me most of all, especially rings because they were worn day in and day out through everyday life and special milestones. They witnessed the lives their wearers lived. Years ago I began to search out shops when traveling so that I could bring home a piece of jewelry history. I am still doing that today. Here in my shop you'll find some of the unique treasures I've turned up along the way!
