The co-founders may have been born in 1984, but it was in 2015 that the clothing brand Pain Melon saw the light.



The pair were having a snack one summer afternoon, when the idea of the name came to them. Pain Melon or "melon pan" is a delicious, sweet and reassuring Japanese delicacy... Pain Melon is like a childhood memory, playing hide and seek with your friends after school, before the afternoon snack.



Drawing their inspiration from Japanese culture and tradition as well as the Geek community, Maurice and Bernard, the house's two mascots, mix these influences with a French touch to offer original clothing.



At an age where innocence and carelessness are slowly disappearing, and when following the rules seems the norm, Pain Melon tries to reverse that process and breathe new light and naivety into our lives -- to remind us of our roots, childhood memories, and to find that child inside all of us. Whether you are a woman, man, banker, lawyer, video game developer or student, at Pain Melon, we are Geeks and big kids who love playing dress-up every morning, and are always curious and in need of new adventures.


Ribbons and bows come together in this clothing line, along with vintage lace from our many travels. All of our embroidery is entirely made by hand, and "Made in France.”



One season after the next, the designers dig out their souvenir boxes and find inspiration from layette colors, Beatrix Potter's universe as well as original kimono patterns to create a girly and “Kawaii” summer collection. They also draw from their teenage years, the influence of the 1990s -- "baby doll" looks, Courtney Love and Ace of Base, black or bronze velvet dresses with vintage lace -- all for ultra feminine designs.



With the exception of basics such as t-shirts and sweatshirts, all of our pieces are unique, and all fabrics and accessories are vintage. In order to sustain the relationship between the brand and clients, each piece is linked to a story related to the design process to create a direct interaction between designers and clients – even if they’ve never met.



A tribute to the land of the rising sun, Pain Melon is at the crossroads between many contrasts, which come together to form a brilliant, unique identity.
