About

Your beautiful designs deserve Palladia trims!

Welcome to Palladia!

My wholesale shop, Palladia Passementerie, has been around for decades—and our products appear on the stages of major ballet, opera, and theater companies around the world. But I’ve always had an interest in serving individual costumers and designers—people who want retail access to our exquisite European metallic gimps and galloons because the quality is really unsurpassed. I was excited to discover Etsy as a means of making that possible, and so here we are!

All of our metallic gimps, galloons, cords, and laces come from some of the best European makers, and we think you’ll be thrilled to discover their beauty. We also carry quality Asian jacquards, and are constantly looking to add styles and vintage items so there’s always something new. Above all, we strive to provide the best in customer service and be the company you turn to again and again.

My own experience comes from years of sewing and creating, taught to me by my mother from an early age. As a teenager, I spent many hours wandering through the fabric section of the local department store, studying the textiles and pattern books as I searched for something new and challenging to make.

Jump ahead a few years, and I was off to study history in Europe for a decade, living in England and later Vienna, which gave me unparalleled opportunities to absorb and delight in the details of so many different historical eras.

These sensibilities—together with a love for the intricacies of historical costume and the cultures that produced them—inspire my passion for bringing these beautiful trims to you.

Returns and exchanges
GUARANTEE: Our trims are guaranteed to be FREE OF DEFECTS ONLY. Due to the complex nature of fabrics and the variety of cleaning, construction, wearing, and storage conditions, we cannot guarantee how a trim will hold up under sewing, gluing, dry cleaning, machine washing, bleaching, damp conditions, shrinking, fading, ironing, etc. If you have concerns, it is best to order a yard to test to make sure it will perform to your specific needs.

RETURNS POLICY:
We allow trims to be returned for a refund (minus shipping) within 14 calendar days if they are in their original condition, which means clean and uncut in their original condition at time of sale. Trims returned clean and uncut in the 15-30 day period may be exchanged for credit. After 30 days, all sales are final. Trims that have been cut or are otherwise damaged cannot be returned. ***Please note that custom orders, remnants, and clearance items cannot be returned.***

HOW TO MAKE A RETURN:
Please call or email for authorization before making a return. Wind the trim neatly and ship in a secure box or mailer to us at: Palladia Passementerie, 1459 Mackubin Street, St. Paul, MN 55117, USA. Please include a copy of the original invoice with your name and address if possible. We will be in touch to let you know of the status of your return. ***Note that we cannot be responsible for returned packages that do not arrive (due to loss by the Post Office, etc.).*** Please use Priority Mail with tracking—or a similar carrier (Fedex, UPS, or DHL, etc.)—if you are concerned to guarantee delivery of your returns. The buyer is responsible for return shipping (unless the return is due to manufacturing defect—see above under "Guarantee").

INTERNATIONAL RETURNS: Please note that as of August 28, 2016, the U.S. Postal Service will charge businesses for all returned Priority Mail packages sent back from overseas. This means that we will need to deduct these return shipping charges should you decide not to accept a package or if the package is returned to us because the local post office was unable to deliver the package.
Shipping
Please note that the Etsy system doesn't allow for many variables in shipping options, which is a particular problem for orders with items that vary so much in weight and bulk. Here's how we operate:

STANDARD U.S. SHIPPING IS USPS PRIORITY MAIL: Please note that our shipping charges include shipping, packaging, handling, and other fees. We ship via USPS Priority Mail, which takes 2-3 days. Priority Mail provides a tracking number, but note that it does not guarantee delivery on a given day/date. If you need guaranteed delivery or overnight shipment, please contact us to make arrangements.

::: INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING :::

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: We will work to reduce international shipping costs if possible (the minimum package price, however is $17.00; even for one yard, we need to package it with a customs declaration, which means putting in in a larger envelope). Please contact us in advance of placing an order if you would like us to give you actual shipping costs for the specific items you wish to purchase. Note that our shipping costs include shipping, packaging, handling, and other fees.

CUSTOMS & CUSTOMS FEES: Your country may assess customs fees to import our products into your country. You, as buyer, are responsible for those fees, which are set by your country's customs office and collected by them. We have no control over these fees and cannot tell you in advance what they might be for your country; we also cannot intervene or contact your customs office to argue for a different charge. Customs fees may be up to 25% or more of the value of the shipment as indicated on the invoice for your order, which we must include by law. Your post office might also charge a fee to handle the transaction on top of the regular customs fee charges. The UK seems to be especially aggressive in collecting customs fees and charging a handling fee (about 9 pounds on top of the customs duties).

***Please do not ask us to falsify customs documents, i.e. the value or contents of the shipment, in order to receive lower customs charges. It is a felony offense in the United States to falsify these documents.***

CUSTOMS AND CUSTOM TRIM ORDERS: ***Please note that custom trim orders cannot be returned due to customs fees.*** The buyer is liable for and should anticipate paying customs fees in order to receive a shipment. These can be in the neighborhood of 25% plus a post-office fee for handling.

INTERNATIONAL RETURNS: Please note that as of August 28, 2016, the U.S. Postal Service will charge businesses for all returned Priority Mail packages sent back from overseas. This means that we will deduct these return shipping charges should you decide not to accept a package due to customs fees or change of mind, or if the package is returned to us because the local post office was unable to deliver the package.
Additional policies and FAQs
DISCOUNTS: We currently don't offer any additional discounts (except for advertised sales or special offers), due to the overheads involved in operating the online stores, credit-card processing, etc. This is in order to be fair to everyone who buys. Thank you for your understanding.

SPLICES/CUTS: On occasion, you may receive a trim with a manufacturer's splice or cut; your order will include extra length (6" to 8") to accommodate the cut. We try to have only one splice per length, although on occasions there may be more. We will contact you if there will be more than one splice, and will let you know the lengths of the segments.

METALLIC TRIMS: Some folks ask if our metallic items are made with real metal. The short answer is that some are, but most aren't. Many makers have stopped making items with real metal because demand is limited—real metal trims can tarnish or corrode over time. They are also much more expensive for the consumer, which also limits demand. Almost all of our real metal trims have been discontinued by the manufacturer, alas! We still have some real-metallic in stock—these have an item number that starts with an M (i.e. #M731.2). They are usually a mix of metallic and non-metallic threads.

All of our metallic gimps and galloons come from quality European makers who specialize in metallic trims, and the quality is top notch—you will notice a huge difference between the metallic trims you get in a big-box store and the European trims we sell. Most of our jacquards (the multi-colored, ribbony trims) are made in Asia, and some do contain mylar threads to create a metallic effect.

WHOLESALE: If you are a business (with U.S. Tax ID for US businesses, or an online business if you are living outside the U.S.), you can buy wholesale on our main site at www.PalladiaPassementerie.com. We have a five-yard minimum per wholesale item, with the exception of certain items sold by the spool or some remnants or clearance items.

CONTACT US: If you have any questions, please do let us know! Our phone number is 651.488.5228 (US Central Time Zone) and our e-mail is info [!at] palladiapassementerie.com.
