Note from shop owner UPDATE 10/02/22: Thank you for visiting. We appreciate the outpouring of support following Hurricane Ian. We are still without running water, but the electric has been restored. We are fine, our home, and my studio survived. Our landscaping took a serious hit, and a portion of our lanai cage is lying on the bottom of the pool. We are some of the lucky ones. While we clean up, my studio and Etsy shop will be closed for the next few weeks. If you need assistance during that time, please send me a convo.

Warm regards,
Donna

Handmade, One-of-a-kind, One-at-a-time

Since birth I have been umbilically connected to the temperate zone. I love all things tropical, thrive in the heat, adore flamingos & pelicans, and I am a strong supporter of the endangered manatees. I hope my work brings the warmth and happiness of the tropics to your home!!

As a child, I always expressed my artistic creativity in the form of sculpting, gardening, and mosaics, all pieces in some way tropical and vibrant.

From 1985 to 2003, I was the owner and sole artist of Donatelli Designs. My body of work consisted of hand-sculpted functional art and jewelry with a tropical theme, in the images of flowers and exotic birds.

Despite my affinity for clay, I was fascinated by glass, and in 2003, my medium for expression evolved; I set the clay aside and returned to school to focus exclusively on the art of kiln-formed glass. I attended warm glass classes at the University of The Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in addition to attending technical workshops at Vitrum Studio in Beltsville, Maryland.

In June 2005, Palm Island Glassworks, LLC was formed.

Today, my glass designs and exciting color palette continue to reflect my love of nature while combining "tropical contemporary" style with a touch of whimsy. The pieces are an eclectic mix of functional art including garden stakes, tableware, picture frames, clocks, ornaments, and night lights. Each piece is individually made and bears my initials, indicating that you have purchased a handcrafted original.

Thank you for choosing Palm Island Glassworks! Each item is hand made, one of a kind, one at a time, by me personally in my studio. I purchase top-of-the-line Bullseye glass to create each piece. Every item is engraved with my initials on the reverse side to indicate that you have purchased a hand crafted original. A double-sided artist Bio card is included with each piece to let the recipient know that they are receiving a hand crafted original.
