I think about blankets as they relate to life's stages, from birth to death captured in moments of time.

From birth when infants are tightly swaddled in soft blankets, to toddlers playing peek-a-boo under a blanket content sitting underneath, having faith that a loved one will lift it up and bring in the light. Blankets mean love and security.

The teenage girl who had a horrible day and runs to her bed, burying herself under the blankets refusing to come out. She hides from life. Her blankets become a safe refuge, protecting her from adulthood.

Lovers who wrap themselves around each other's naked bodies pull a blanket over them not just for warmth, but for the feelings of intimacy and affection. Their blanket is the comfort of love.

The family bed with an array of children and their parents, (or one parent), all snuggle together under the blanket every child valued and appreciated for themselves. Their blankets are rich with unconditional love and togetherness.

The elderly woman sits with her favorite old blanket across her lap or around her shoulders, pulling it tighter and wrapping herself in its loosely woven threads.
Her blanket comforts her with warm memories of the past.

And lastly, in many cultures the dead are wrapped tightly in blankets before they are burned or buried.
From birth to death blankets are interwoven with life's moments.
