This stuff I bought at the store smells nice, but now my head hurts and I feel dizzy...
I've had this experience a lot. I enjoy incense, not only as a way to keep my living space smelling nice, but also as a pleasant addition to ritual. Many witchcraft 101 books mention incense in passing (This kind is helpful on this day ect.) but I felt a kind of cognitive dissonance occur when I burned incense with synthetic components while honoring nature. In addition, many of the sweet smelling woods and resins commonly used in cheap incense are endangered.
So I started making my own, with the goal of creating a milder scent and leaving a smaller impact on the earth. Not all forms of incense require extra essential oils added, some can get by with just the herb alone. When essential oils are used, they are used sparingly and sourced responsibly. Endangered ingredients are avoided, and organic herbs are used when possible. It's still a very small operation, run by a scatter-brained musician with a home made extruder and some paper plates to dry sticks on, but it's run with love.
And LOTS of green tea and dark chocolate.
My life has thus far been a delightful blur of videogames, literature, dirt worship, and overall silliness beneath the evergreens of Oregon. I hope to continue it in this manner for some time.
If you've ever thought that the incense available at most stores in the U.S. smells a little bit like remnants from a chemical plant, you are in the right place! My incense is just herbs, some wood powder, and a pinch of guar gum to hold it all together ( No need to burn your fingers trying to light that charcoal!) I use organic and/or respectfully wildcrafted herbs whenever possible, though I will sometimes make exceptions for base materials such as Red Cedar or White Willow Bark (Google either one of those materials with the word organic in the name to find out why) The results are pleasant, mild scents that mimic those found in nature.
PLEASE NOTE: I am currently a student working towards a degree, and will periodically have to adjust my policies in accordance with how I'm living. For instance, during finals week, the window of time between your purchase and the actual shipping of the product may be extended. This is not me trying to inconvenience you- this is me taking the necessary steps to prevent myself from screwing from up your order or losing track of your purchase all together. If such a change needs to happen, I will update this page or, at the very least, email you.
