Quality, hardwood toys, made fresh daily!

My dad ("Papa Don") started making toys for me when I was a baby. He and my mom soon realized that there was a market for heirloom-quality natural wooden toys. They launched Papa Don's Toys in 1973. I grew up working in the family wood shop and selling our toys at craft shows throughout the Pacific Northwest. After a stint in Alaska, I came back home to Oregon to take the helm.

As a second generation toymaker, I'm happy to be continuing my family's tradition of providing children with a safe, durable, and eco-friendly alternative to plastic toys.

I make the toys primarily from red alder, also called Oregon alder. A non-toxic, food-grade mineral oil finish brings out the rich, warm glow of this beautiful hardwood. The wood is non-splintering and I carefully sand all edges to a smooth finish for sensitive little hands.

The colored paints are non-toxic and safe for babies and children. The paints have been independently tested for lead, heavy metals and phthalates and they exceed federal safety guidelines for children's toys. Our pull cords are made from 100% organic European hemp - unbleached and undyed.

I hope my toys bring much joy and delight to the children in your life.

I've always loved making things with my hands. I appreciate fine craftsmanship and I strive for quality and beauty in my own work. When I'm not making toys, I enjoy being in wild nature, following my curiosity, quilting, gardening, & cooking.

Thank you for choosing Papa Don's Toys for the little ones in your life!

We make our toys primarily from red alder, also called Oregon alder. A non-toxic, food-grade mineral oil finish brings out the rich, warm glow of this beautiful hardwood. The brightly colored paints we use are also non-toxic. We have had our paints independently tested for lead, heavy metals and phthalates and they exceed federal safety guidelines for children's toys. The wood is non-splintering and we carefully sand all edges to a smooth finish for sensitive little hands.

Handmade toys are a rarity today and I'm proud to be a second generation toymaker and to offer a quality alternative to mass-produced toys made overseas. We make our toys with joy and hope that they bring countless hours of delight to the children in your life.

Returns and exchange details
If upon receiving your toy, you are not satisfied for any reason you may return it unused for a full refund within 10 days of delivery. We build heirloom-quality toys that are often enjoyed by siblings and even passed down to the next generation. Our toys have a lifetime guarantee against breakage due to manufacturing defects. In the rare case that a toy is functionally defective, we are happy to repair or replace it at no charge. We ask that you send us a photo of the defective toy so we can better understand what went wrong.
Payment
We accept all major credit cards.

We are also set up to receive payments through PayPal.
Shipping
Due to disruptions caused by current coronavirus pandemic, I am giving myself 1-2 weeks for order fulfillment. That said, I do my best to get orders out more quickly, within 1-5 days. Please send me a convo if you have any questions about shipping times. I have decided not to participate in Etsy's push to offer free shipping for orders over $35.00. To do so would require raising the cost of my toys. I prefer to be transparent and keep shipping costs separate.

We ship our toys through the United States Postal Service (USPS).
Additional policies and FAQs
Please note that wood naturally has variation in color and grain which adds character to the toy and means that no two toys are exactly alike. Your toy may have small knots or other variations, but will always be structurally sound.
