Paper + Imagination
PaperSynthesis was born from a love of paper—the natural extension of years spent collecting papers and working with everything from oils to watercolors, photography, artist's books, collages & words. I like to think of it as what happens when paper & imagination intersect.
While my background in architecture influences everything I do, I am truly at home with smaller scale projects that I can create with my own two hands. I have found that I enjoy following the entire process myself, from concept to design to finished piece.
Each item is designed, developed & created in my home studio in Florence. I use Italian materials when possible, and the photographs offered as prints and cards or calendar collections are inspired by the cities & landscape of my adopted country. Architectural details, the Arno's always-changing reflections, and market-fresh produce & flowers entice me on a daily basis, and journeys to other regions hold endless discoveries of their own. My introductory collection reflects my love of Florence, but you'll also find some of my Venetian-inspired work, as well as still lifes from my "In Bloom" & "In Season" collections.
I am often seduced by the world of virtual design that’s showing up on websites and blogs these days, but I still find that nothing comes close to the experience of holding something in my hands. I love feeling the weight and texture of the paper, noticing the nuances of color and pattern, responding to an object's presence. My hope is that each PaperSynthesis item will bring you the same enjoyment, whether you receive it by post or as a digital file that you print with your own special touch.
