5 out of 5 starsThis print is lovely! It makes me so happy to look at it! There are real loblolly's outside my window, so I appreciate the opportunity to match my art to life, instead of just getting a generic pine picture <3

5 out of 5 starsThe package came in excellent condition. The painting was wrapped in pretty paper and with a plastic sleeve. The painting is fabulous. I have ruby-throated hummingbirds in my yard the entire summer and they are a joy to watch; I especially enjoy their antics with the downy woodpeckers. I love the painting. I highly recommend the artist.

About Paperlore
Joy
My mother once wrote a poem about the joy she experienced while watching a Labrador Retriever playing in the snow and I’ve started to wonder if that isn’t my role in life as well; to share my joy in nature. Ever since I was a kid I spent as much of time outside as I possibly could. We lived in the city but all the same, I found my way up trees, crawled through the bushes, and slid down snow-covered hills. I skated, swam, canoed, and watched the clouds float by. I chose to fulfill my passion for nature by being a biologist until a just a few years ago, when I rediscovered my earlier love of drawing. Call me crazy, but I quit my job and started Lore Ruttan Illustration. My Etsy shop, Paperlore, started a few months later.
Many pieces of my art start with something I saw; perhaps while on a walk around the neighborhood with my dog Hank, or on a hike in the mountains. Sometimes, my kids bring home things for me, like the Possum skull. As I carefully observe more and more detail, and as I slowly (yes, I’ll use the term painstakingly) build up layers of colors, each painting becomes an homage to the found item and place. Although I follow traditional botanical artists in their attention to detail and accuracy, I like to think I bring a more modern sensibility to my palette and composition.

I really enjoy painting things that I actually see, things that are not perfect but instead full of all the flaws and imperfections that make up reality.
