About

Taming the Creatively Wild Beast with Reality: Design Aesthetics Wearable Art Personal: Adornment is for Metalsmiths of more than Decoration

I really love these biomorphic shapes.l I’ve been creating recently. They are like little sea creatures swimming in a petri dish: delightfully flopping around without a care in the world. I really got into a grove creating them this summer, sawing one shape at a time. I thought to enlarge my shapes and make them stand alone as earrings, so I tried to reign in the wild beast I become while creatingh, and saw a pair of shapes that match in succession. I loved what I was doing.
I tend to be stubborn at times. I kept cutting with hopes that eventually two might come along that could be considered a pair. I even developed a design transfer system, however, it turns out that I am not a machine. I think only 5 pr 6 pair come out of that rigamarole. In finding that I cannot do the exact same thing sequentially, It to me a long time to realize that I am wasting my time. This task is against the very nature of my creative processes and will NEVER be possible. Also, I have to face the fact that no matter how hard I want my customers to expand their thinking to actually want two different yet similar earrings, it will never happen.
It is an important reality in that I need my jewelry to sell because I need to make money from it in order to continue creating and people only buy what inspires them. They also love to speak their minds, they want to be heard, they want to set an example, they want to be relevant and meaningful. Personal adornments can reinforce ones personal message and be an instant communication containing a potent first impression. It may be wildly creative, flamboyant, extravagant and even be a bit dangerous, but still, consistent and strong. This is why earrings always come in matched pairs. This duality creates a unified message. An mismatched pair is playfully quirky, which might be desirable, but it's also confusing, making one's statement complicated. Nobody wants their first impression to be seen that way, unless you are an art teacher, which most people aren't.
So, Here I am, stuck in reality where no two snowflakes are alike in a place that consumers require matched pairs. I can,and know how to cut 2 biomorphic shapes at the same time. although its slow and I will break a mega ton of blades. , I will continue my pursuit towards perfection and carry on.

My interests as an artist have always been inspired by nature and growth. The goal of all work I create is to maximize its expressive and dynamic design. Aesthetically, I've been attracted by a myriad of modern artists and traditional Asian Arts, I've been astounded by their sophistication and creativity.
