About

once upon a time...

It all started with a table my youngest son, Mark, used to play on when he was five years old...

It had a mosaic tabletop I had made completely by hand using non-glazed porcelain tile. I had created that piece many years earlier while I was just 16 years old studying art in Los Angeles. By the age of 25, with three kids in tow, I put my art aspirations aside and began a career as a buyer for May Co. department stores. This led me to exciting travels abroad where I was constantly inspired by the local art scenes. The more art I saw, the more hopeful I became to one day return to my art.

Fast forward 20 years...

For Mark's 25th birthday I decided to give him that very same tabletop he used to play on as a child. Being an artist in his own right, he truly treasured it and before long he was asking me about making mosaics. Happy to see him inspired by my work I gladly showed him the process. Within a year's time he was creating custom tables for showrooms and boutiques all over Los Angeles. Around this time I had begun making baroque mosaic vases with stained glass and re-purposed jewelry. Once I had a nice collection together Mark began presenting my work to the stores he had developed relationships with. They were a huge hit and I found myself being utterly, and completely inspired! Our work was being represented throughout Southern Calif and we eventually decided it was time for us to open up our very own studio and showroom in beautiful Del Mar, Calif.

The heavens had opened...

Before long I began receiving commissions for large scale mosaic projects for clients such as Universal Studios, Lowes Hotel, Kaiser Hospitals and various designers nationwide. I remember impressing upon my son how important it was to do something that you love and enjoy for a living. Admittedly, even I had no idea how true, and prophetic, that statement was. Mark always says that that table changed his life and credits it with introducing him to his artistic path in life. I could never of known when I was a teenager making it that it would eventually do the same for me so many years later.

I am very happy to be part of the Etsy community. I believe in the importance of making things by hand and with LOVE. I am also living proof that you if you do something you love for a living you will end up in love with your life. Enjoy!

In my youth I was fortunate enough to study fine art in a variety of media with a host of great teachers; Sister Corita; (silk screens) Sueo Sarasota; (oil paintings), David Schnabel; (figure drawings), and the list goes on...
