New York Beauties, Mariners Compasses, Traditional Patterns and New Designs

Hello! Welcome to Patchmaker.

I'm a quilt designer, and all of the pieces you'll see at Patchmaker are designed, and stitched, by me. I use EQ7 quilt software to develop many of my designs, but others are drawn by hand using a big sheet of paper and an old fashioned pencil and eraser. My templates are often just scraps of paper.

Enclosed shapes suggest comfort and security to me, and so you will find a lot of circular or oval designs here. I also like flowing graceful curves, and try to work them in whenever I can. My favorite patterns include Mariner's Compass, and New York Beauty, although I am also drawn to the simplicity of the Modern Quilt movement.

I work a lot in batik fabrics, simply because of the intensity of colors. Solid black is my neutral for most of my pieces. There is always at least one bolt of Kona Cotton solid black in my studio.

The Patchmaker studio is tucked away in my Edwardian farmhouse (circa 1901), near the tiny village of Clementsport, Nova Scotia, Canada. My house is filled with fabrics and fibers, antiques, music, and critters! The coffee pot is usually on, and there are piles of books everywhere. In addition to quilting, I'm an avid sock and hat knitter, and a beginning weaver.

You are welcome to contact me with any questions. I hope that you will visit often. Patchmaker quilts may also be found on Ebay, by entering "Patchmaker Quilts" in the search bar.
