About

Soli Deo Gloria

I have known since I was a child that I loved art and it loved me; as in: I had some talent. It's a good thing, because I couldn't sing, dance, sew, or play guitar. Still can't. I spent every chance I could in art class in high school and actually once had a painting of mine stolen. I had no idea it was that valuable!

I minored in art in college but unfortunately never finished with a degree. My major was psychology and one day I realized that if I spent all day listening to other people's problems I would become depressed and promptly quit school. I also quit because I had to work to pay my way and frankly I thought it was all too hard and wimped out. Too bad, because I'm a much stronger person now and I really could use the money!

After college I put art on the back burner while trying to be a serious adult-like person; working and trying to raise a family. Who had time to paint while taking care of two kids? My first marriage ended when my kids were quite young and I had to work. The ex was not too good about paying child support. OK, he was horrible.

After being laid off from my job as a printed circuit board designer during a recession, I took a job as a furniture salesman. I was a really bad salesman. I just couldn't cajole people into buying stuff they didn't want like the other salesmen. It felt dishonest. Plus business was really slow, so to fill the time I began sketching the knick knacks around the showroom. I was totally amazed that I could still draw well. I thought if you don't use it you lose it, right? One of my managers bought a piece from me as a Christmas gift for his wife.

Several people just gave me things like a drafting table and other supplies I couldn't have afforded on my own, so I'm thinking that this art thing is my calling, because all the pieces were just falling together for this to happen. Well, I let life get in the way again, remarried and had another child, and busied myself being a wife and mom.

So one day in February of 2013, I went to a nearby church to see a friend's daughter-in-law get baptized. Then a couple came up and gave a testimony about how they couldn't earn any money so they started a sign business. They didn't really know what they were doing but God blessed their business and it became successful. And the lady's name was the same as mine. I was stunned because I knew God was talking to me.

I thought it was really too late for me but it wasn't. As fast as I could I opened my Etsy shop. The name, PathLighter, came to me as a reflection of my goal in life to uplift and encourage others with positive quotes. It is my sincere prayer that I can help lighten the load of anyone in need of a good word.

I would be honored to help make your walk through life a little more pleasant, or to do the same for your loved one. As always, you may contact me for any additional information and I am more than happy to create for you your own custom-designed piece. Your satisfaction is my ultimate goal.

My signs are rustic, made from reclaimed wood with positive quotes; perfect for a cabin, a man cave, or vintage/country/beach style. I also do work in a shabby chic style with soft colors and decoupage; perfect for more feminine or shabby chic décor.

Additional policies and FAQs
Size, coloration, & condition vary depending on the wood I find. If you are interested in a particular quote, but the original is sold out, you can have that quote on a piece of wood that will probably not be the exact same size, shape, or pattern but will be similar. Please note that these pieces are weathered, reclaimed wood and therefore are not like new. This adds to the charm of each piece.
