Abigail was wonderful to work with. I had her "tweak" one of her paintings so that the colors would match my room. I have it hanging over the fireplace and could not be happier.

About Abigail Hobbs Studios

I still remember the smell of my college art studio. Canvas and dust, oil paint and turpentine-- all mixed to create this heady aroma that clung to my clothes and hair. It soaked into my skin and intoxicated me at my core, sparking an addiction to brush and pigment.

My entire college career had been a series of over-loaded class schedules, backpacks heavy with books, eyes bloodshot from writing too many English papers. My senior year, I demanded one creative outlet: an elective that wasn't just another history or English class. I chose Painting I and II, a field that I had a hobbyist's interest in. Stepping into that classroom changed me: I became a writer and an artist from that day forward. I began painting and never stopped.

After graduation, I married and moved from the American South to Maryland, part of that Mid-Atlantic region that can't decide whether it's Southern or not. I opened my Etsy shop as a way to sell the artwork that was beginning to overflow in our first tiny apartment. I was so surprised when I made my first sell that same day: a charcoal sketch of an Arabian horse. Since opening, my artistic style has grown to specialize in mixed media abstracts and floral artwork.

Ultimately, I paint and craft for my own enjoyment. Taking some mundane or unused item and transforming it into an unexpected, eclectic bit of art gives me so much joy. Anything can be made beautiful, if you just take the time to find the image hidden in the canvas.
