About Patotype

Sales 24
On Etsy since 2014

Unique porcelain pieces carefully and heartedly handmade, one by one.

I'm a designer deeply in love with clay.

Some years ago I realized I was more involved in running the way rather than in reaching the purpose. Working to my prototypes rather than see the eventual industrial final piece.
That's why I finally choose uniqueness and Patotype born.

During university I attended a basic ceramic course, more as a diversion during winter evenings than for genuine interest. Unexpectedly I found myself totally in love with the material, and with the technique. Time spent with my hands in clay was enchanting. It inspired my ideas and made my head turning around. After degree in Industrial Design, my ceramic work goes on and on. I spent lot of time in my lab and attending courses and masterclass to give my creativity more and more expressive opportunities.

My production had always been pretty various, even if, during last 2 years, I focused my attention most on jewelry. I find it attractive because really closed to the consumer. Jewels of my life had always been strictly connected to a special person, or moment. I love thinking people giving a jewel of mine as an important gift, or someone feeling fine wearing it.

My favorite material for jewels is Limoges Porcelain which, left unglazed, gives a soft feel to the ceramic piece. It belongs to the "hard-paste" category of porcelain. That means a porcelain of great hardness, translucency, and strength composed by kaolinite, quartz and feldspar. It is a very technical and challenging material which fires at very high temperature, getting stronger but even warping and shrinking sometimes.
It is an hard and patient job which requires technical knowledge and lots of practical. But what I feel during clay handling is nearly perfection...
Every piece borns 2 times. First, during design process, when concept and technical structure are defined, but it's in the making that every single piece really takes life.
Time to time it is different, same concept, same structure, different aspect. Just like living beings.

That's what I do.
Unique pieces carefully and heartedly handmade, one by one.
