Paulus Porcelain 5 years!

I realized this week that we just missed the 5th birthday of our shop. The exact date is the 3rd of march I believe.

Whoa! 5 years already. I started with a set of Villeroy & Boch Valeria in red. Prices were way too low but this was actually a blessing because some savvy buyers snapped up most of the set in the first few weeks. This stimulated us to add more.

It has been a bumpy ride and a very steep learning curve. But after 5 years Etsy is about 80% of our business. We also have some clients who buy from us directly and we participate in some online auctions.

About a year ago we first ventured away from selling porcelain and earthenware. We added a collection of fine crystal items. They were very well received and they actually sell as well as our porcelain. So we now continuously buy and sell fine glass and crystal.

At the moment the business provides one of us with a full-time and one of us with a part-time job. Occasionally we also get some help fulfilling orders. Packing fragile items is a lot of work!

In 2022 we moved from two small rooms to a huge (2200sqft or 210m2) warehouse. This was a huge milestone and a dream come true.

What does the future hold?

After last summer we dropped some other activities to have a greater focus on Etsy. Since this moment we grew from having about 1200 listings at a time to having about 2000 listings at a time. This number still grows organically with about 50 listings a week. So expect us to have a much much larger volume on Etsy.

Also we are planning of adding flatware to our offerings. Silver, Silver Plated and designer cutlery would be a great addition to our already tabletop focused business. We will not do this without first expanding our knowledge to have a more than basic understanding of this field. This is being worked on.
