About PeaceMealArt

On Etsy since 2013

I started making art for therapy and just kept going!

In 2009 I needed a radical change in direction. So I started exploring my creative, right brain side and gave my left brain a much needed time out. I found it to be so good for me that I kept on exploring. Story has always been at the heart of what I’ve done – music, writing, food and visual arts all have it at their core. Many healers, old and current, know that Story has the power to heal individuals and community. Scientists and healers have discussed the idea that the ability to tell stories is what makes us human. I believe it can also revive the Light of our humanity. I also believe that when you do what is right for you, it benefits everyone.

There was never any intention of "becoming an artist". I simply needed a method of stepping out of my analytic mind and into a more spontaneous, creative space. The therapy of jumping into something in which I have no formal training and felt inept at, has been profound. Being in my studio, playing, experimenting and learning to let my creativity flow unrestrained by self-judgement has profoundly impacted me. I have sold and shown locally at art markets and galleries, but needed a space to put my creations in between events. So Peace Meal Art came to Etsy in 2013.

This is a one-woman operation out of my home studio. I dream up and make all the items listed in my shop, as well as package and ship them. I have never made two pieces alike, so when you order you can be assured you are getting a true original.
In many of my art canvases, I use vintage papers or sewing pattern tissue in the background. Years ago I inherited a backlog of antique Etude Music Magazines ranging from the ‘30s to the ‘60’s. These magazines came to inspire many of the pieces I created and the stories and music of those on the pages live on as the foundation of my art. You will see lots of layers of color, paper and story in my art; the intention is to invite the viewer to take more than a passing glance, to truly look beneath the surface and take in the whole picture. Some layers, you may never see. But they are there. I know they’re there. And isn’t that life? Someone before us created a story that lives on in the things that surround us, and often we don’t even know it. Sometimes, though - it just takes curiosity and a moment of truly looking at something we think we know to find something profound.

Paper has long been a favorite medium to work with. It felt natural to create small works of art in the collage style on greeting cards. I like the personal, intimate message that can come with handing someone their own personal piece of art. I started making a few original greeting cards using stamps, stencils, markers, card stock and assorted embellishments to sell alongside my art at shows. They were so popular and enjoyable to create that I dedicated a large section of my Etsy shop to greeting cards.

So how did I come up with the garlands? Well, did I mention I love paper? My husband and I are obsessed with wiener dogs since being owned by our first, Schnitzel and our current Chiweenie, Mitzi. I combine the gorgeous card stocks I find with my handmade wiener dog stencil and Doxie Garlands are born. I draw and cut each dog, create a fun, positive centerpiece, string them together, outline each in a corresponding color of gel pen, then send them off to their furever homes. They are consistent sellers and one of the most fun things I get to spend my time making.

For those who practice yoga and meditation, I have the Yoga Lotus Paper Garlands. These are perfect for a small space in a studio or near your dedicated meditation/altar space. These garlands make perfect gifts for yoga teachers and practitioners alike.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Yes! I often fill custom requests for my paper crafts line. Please convo me to see if we can come up with a paper garland or card that's perfect for you. Keep in mind garlands may take up to 3 days to make, and additional 1-3 to ship. I reserve the right to turn down a custom order if insufficient time is given or subject matter is not in line with my personal ethics/standards. While I may be able to create a customized garland similar to one listed, I do not alter existing listings under any category.

Care instructions

PeaceMealArt canvases are remarkably resilient and should remain relatively colorfast and protected for many years. Each piece receives several coats of sealant and adhesives used are long-lasting.
However, care should be taken not to place your art on a wall or shelf where it contacts direct sunlight regularly or is exposed to heat or moisture. Also take care not to store anything against the face of the art.
If you ever have an issue with your art, please contact me immediately and I will work to see if repairs can be made. I want you to live a long time with your art!

Gift wrapping and packaging

Each item is packaged individually, branded and/or wrapped in protective kraft paper before being shipped. I love adding decorative elements like washi tape, stamps or other embellishments to make it special. If you are purchasing a PeaceMealArt item as a gift, mark the "Gift" option when you purchase. If you would like it wrapped for a specific occasion, please message me when you purchase. I won't charge extra!

Sizing details

All of the sizing details for my products are noted within the listing descriptions. If you have further questions about a listing size/dimension, please message me. If you would like to know about ordering a custom garland in a longer/shorter length, message me and we'll see what we can come up with. I cannot reproduce an original art piece in a different size, however if you are looking to order a custom art piece similar to one listed, message me.
