About

How It All Started...

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a creative spirit. I can’t think of a time when I haven’t drawn, dreamed, painted, and created… AND…I’ve always LOVED jewelry. My first “real” job was working the counter of a jewelry store. The owners were inspiring, and so talented. I had never seen a bench jeweler at work before then and to say I was in complete AWE would be an understatement. I think that sparked a fire in me that was never extinguished…thank goodness…because now I get to do what I love everyday!!!
I find inspiration in nature and I love to be outdoors. It’s easy to be inspired when you’re able to use all of your senses all at once!

Many people have asked me about the name of my shop…Peacock Gypsies…well, it was really quite easy…First, I adore Peacocks, from their magnificent beauty to the ancient folklore surrounding them.
My two favorite tales are that the Peacock was thought to have the power of resurrection, like the Phoenix. I like that because I feel like I have had to recreate myself a few times in this life. And this next one really speaks to my love of metal. It is said that early Alchemists thought the fan of the peacock was associated with certain texts and images that are useful in turning base metals into gold.
How awesome is that?
The second part…Gypsies…well, that has to do with my mom. Mom always said that our little tribe had the hearts of Gypsies…that it was in our blood…
I don’t know about that but I do know that more than once we have been described as “those creative types” LOL, Mom was a VERY “Creative Type”, an artisan to the core! Luckily for me, she passed some of that creativeness down the gene pool.

Have a BEAUTIFUL day!!

Additional policies and FAQs
Additional Policies and FAQs:

All jewelry is handcrafted and will bear the trademarks and unique qualities that handcrafting brings. This is to be expected. Items will not appear machine made or factory produced. Small imperfections are to be expected and are part of the artistry, beauty, and uniqueness of the piece.
When items are made to order, there may be slight differences from what is pictured, I will do my best, if time allows, to send a photo prior to shipping the item.
Some of the materials I use may contain nickel in them so be aware of this if you have a nickel allergy. If you have any questions with regard to items containing nickel, please contact me to discuss it further.

Jewelry is inherently delicate. Please handle and store your jewelry with care. No pants pockets or purse storage- that's just asking for trouble!

*******Understanding Copper******

How to enjoy wearing it and making Copper your FAVORITE jewelry metal!!

Copper Characteristics:

Copper is a pure elemental metal, CU on the periodic table.
Copper oxidizes and darkens when it comes in contact with the air in the environment (much like sterling silver, but more quickly). Oxidation happens even more quickly in the presence of sunlight, sweat, chlorine (swimming pools), chemicals and cosmetics. Therefore we suggest always removing your jewelry before bathing, swimming, exercising, doing dishes, or applying lotion or makeup. Always keep your jewelry clean and dry.

If you prefer the “aged” look that oxidation naturally gives copper, we recommend cleaning your jewelry with a bit of mild dish soap in warm water. You can use a soft bristle brush when necessary.
If you prefer a “bright” look to your copper, we recommend cleaning your copper jewelry by soaking in a glass bowl with a bit of vinegar and salt. ***This is not recommended for any jewelry with stones or any jewelry that has had a patina added during manufacture. It could permanently damage the piece.***

The Natural Reaction Between Copper and Your Skin

If you’ve ever seen copper roofs that have turned green, that is what is called copper patina. The copper has reacted with the environment and formed a coating on the surface of the metal. Environmental conditions including sunlight, dust, and rain, especially acidic rain, can cause this effect.

The same sort of thing can happen when copper comes in contact with your skin if your skin is acidic. The natural acids in your skin combine with copper and make copper salts which are green. They are harmless and can simply be washed off. The copper salts actually form on the copper and are rubbing off on your skin. The green color results from an individual’s body chemistry at a particular time. This is why two people can wear the same ring and one person’s finger will turn green and the others will not. A person can wear a copper bracelet one day with no green marks and the next day green marks might appear.

What does the green tell you? The green color means that your skin has become more acidic and has dissolved copper from the jewelry piece faster than the body can absorb it. This usually happens when we sweat, when we are stressed, or even when we experience dietary changes.

When the body is in a state of homeostasis, the copper is absorbed through the skin at the same rate it is dissolved from the jewelry so there are no green marks.
I coat my copper pieces with Renaissance Wax which helps a great deal with slowing down both oxidation and patination, however the wax is not a permanent coating and with time and wear it will diminish.
