About Me!

After almost 30 years as a receptionist /witchboard operator/clerk, my position was eliminated in January 2013. I decided to finally bring my artistic talents to the fore.
Since watching John Gnagy on TV & drawing along with Mom & my sister, I have taken a summer Drawing and Painting class at MICA, the Commercial Artist Course at Famous Artist Schools, and a Graphic Arts Course at Catonsville Community College, always learning and growing in other media as the need arose.

Throughout my life, if I couldn't find what I wanted, I'd make it. Because of that, I've delved into or been formally trained in different ranges of the arts: painting, refinishing furniture, faux-finishing, sewing clothing, drapery, period dress, embroidering, stenciling, theater, singing belle canto, contra & folk dancing, beading. Based on those experiences, needs & wants, I drew upon inspiration for my shop. Peacock Proud or ( I had always wanted to work in the arts! I finally get to!

I design & assemble my jewelry on my dining room table, based on mixing and matching many different combinations of beads, some expected, some surprising! I have never followed trends but try to create what makes my heart flutter & makes me feel beautiful & confident, hoping others will feel those things, too! In my shop you will find beaded jewelry as in Smithsonian magazine, Holly & Yashi, & Una Alla Volta, & others, but without the super high prices. And they are one-of-a-kind,....Okay, so occasionally I make a second for myself. I won't consider a piece finished until it is absolutely perfect!

** Your purchase will arrive in tarnish resistant batting, in a box made in the USA from recycled materials , then placed in a padded envelope I have saved from packages sent to my house, In order to lower my environmental impact... & to help keep prices low for you. If you order more that one item, I could put them all in one box, if you'd like.

For the address signs, I recruit my husband, Clay, to help in sawing apart the different sizes of board from one large piece of hardboard. Besides scroll sawing, I do everything else: designing, painting, drawing, varnishing, etc. When shipping these, I re use cardboard I have saved from items shipped to me. Why buy new?

I am of Polish ancestry & in national folk dress, Poles wear peacock feathers in their hats at weddings & festivals, and I have them all over my house! I also love art glass, rich color, and iridescence, which are also found on a peacock, therefore, I couldn't help but name my shop from the phrase "proud as a peacock"!

Besides all of that, my husband is a meteorologist,& we have 3 cats, Newt, Tribble, & Troy (as in Commander Troy from Star Trek, but really Trojak, a dance for 3 as she has only 3 legs). We like reading, history, folk dancing, jigsaw puzzles, baseball, trivia, & contra dancing.
