I found freshwater pearls. That was it!
Pearl's Ain't Formal began a couple of months ago when a friend showed me a source for beautiful freshwater pearls. Hmmm.... definite possibilities! I browsed for hours, then picked out my favourites and placed an order.
When they arrived, I had design plans for different necklaces and bracelets worked out on paper, very organised and detailed. All sorted - just make up according to plan? Not so!
The pieces in my shop are a far cry from the original plans. After sitting down for ages and playing around with these fascinating little pearls and heaps of jewellery making supplies, I found myself moving away from the idea of fancy, formal pieces into more relaxed, boho style.
Hence the name. Says it all, really.
Owner, Maker, Designer, Curator
Hi! Thanks for stopping by. I'm a arty gal who enjoys dabbling in just about every craft, from dressmaking to painting to jewellery making. I also love to write, read, take in the great outdoors, and listen to good music!
The idea behind Pearls Ain't Formal is to create modern, stylish - or quirky! - jewellery showcasing the natural beauty of freshwater pearls, moving away from the stereotypical (very) expensive and (rather) boring string of plain white pearls into baroque pearls, keshi pearls and others, in a range of delightful colours and shapes!
All items are hand-made in Cornwall, England.
Enjoy browsing the shop...and discovering just how affordable and wearable pearls can be!
