Announcement   My shop sells mostly cashmere yarn, silk cashmere yarn and merino yarns all recycled from thrift store sweaters. Treat yourself to luxury yarn at a reasonable price.

All my new listings have multiple skeins of matching yarn available within a single listing. This should make it easier to easily see the total yardage in stock for any yarn from a single page. To order more than one of the same skein, you will need to add them to your shopping cart one at a time.

If you are ready to try a lace weight project for the first time, I recommend either an extra fine grade lace weight merino wool or a luscious silk cashmere yarn. If you are new to knitting with commercial lace weight cashmere, try working with the yarn doubled or Navajo ply the yarn as you work. Using two or more related colors will create a beautiful tweedy fabric. Recycled yarn is a wonderful product; it helps the environment and supports local charities.

Updates

This is all the yarn that I've recycled so far this year. There are a few that will go to my weaving yarn stash, but most will be coming to my shop in the next week or so.

About

Recycling yarn leads to more and more yarn, enough to fill a shop.

I began recycling silk and silk cashmere yarns to weave with and then branched out into merino wool and cashmere yarns.

I am likely not the least expensive source for recycled yarn, but I think you do get what you pay for. Each sweater is washed, carefully taken apart into the separate pieces, and unraveled onto a ball winder. From there, I make up all the skeins from that sweater. These are carefully tied and tagged to get them ready for washing. I take the time to wash my yarns usually two times and through multiple rinses. I want the yarn you receive to be as clean and as un-kinky as I can make it. I have begun making a plied join for cashmere and merino yarns whenever possible. This join takes some time, but results in a strong knit-through join, so you don't need to slow down and deal with a knot. Each skein is marked with weight, length and any joins or knots. I calculate yardage by the number of rotations on the skein winder, using a revolution counter, measuring the length of each skein after it has been washed and dried. On your request, I provide the service of winding your yarn from a skein into a center-pull ball.

I take pride in providing excellent customer service. I am happy to answer any questions and I generally ship next business day. If I need to wind a large number of skeins for you, it will take a couple of days extra.
