An adult eduction night class in pottery led to the discovery of a love of making ceramics, followed by the good fortune of finding my own studio space in the town where I live has led to the wonderful opportunity to earn my living throwing pots.

Almost everything I make today is thrown on the wheel in beautiful porcelain, though I do hand build a small selection of work at times. Each piece is thrown, turned, bisque fired, sanded and then glazed. They are then re-loaded in the kiln and fired to 1240 degrees, sanded one last time and are then ready for their new home.

The process from beginning to end can be as short as 2 weeks and as long as 8 weeks, depending on the size of the pieces being made, the weather and commitments at the studio.

I love the process of throwing on the wheel, which has never lost its draw for me, and the feelings of excitement mixed with worry is still there every time I open the kiln door - seeing all the beautiful colours and new experimental pieces is wonderful when it all goes well, but disappointing if it doesn't.

Luckily most firings are wonderful and I continue to love my work and am so grateful to have found pottery!
